Burn After Reading: Waste of 2 fucking hours

One needs to not focus on cast but rather who made the film. It takes a certain mood and understanding to inhale a Coen Brothers movie properly.

Burn After Reading was hilariously great. While not as good as other Coen classics like Fargo, Lebowski, Raising Arizona and No Country For Old Men - it holds its own. I laughed through the whole thing.

Watched a bit of it, couldnt continue. I watched Gran Torino (Clint Eastwood's last film?) and thought it was great. Racist, old ex-marine, 78 yr old Eastwood still had it on lock.

I watched Burn After Reading after reading 1/2 of this thread and thought it was hilarious. All the characters were brilliant.

See, the problem with a movie like Burn After Reading is that people are expecting it to be something it really isn't.

It's only funny if you're the sort of person that thought Layer Cake or In Bruges was funny. The it's not comedy so much as just really morbid fantasy that's not-quite-ironic.

I thought it was a rather brilliant movie about how people will continue to dig the hole a little deeper for themselves and everyone around them because they keep saying "Dig up, stupid!"... And at the end of it, we learnt not to do it again, whatever it was in the first place.
But we never learn what it is in the first place.
The way I see it, the whole movie rests on you understanding that last line as being something you're meant to realise is happening in your own life.

Also, the bit where they finally wipe the smile of Brad Pitt's face is great!

I watched it last night and enjoyed it as well. I don't think it was meant to be a comedy even though the previews presented it that way...I did like when Brad got his face shot off and the irony that the FBI were the ones who finally gave her the plastic surgery.....it was slow at times but I liked the different levels of stupidity each character brought to the table.

If I want humor, I'll pop in my dvd of Office Space or Anchorman:-)

wtf... burn after reading was one of my films of the year.
everything the coen brothers do seems to be good.
... I just can't understand how people couldn't like it

Loooooove seeing movies gold class... You never have to put up with fucking teenagers talking on their phones through the damn movie.
It's a pity they never put the horror movies in it :(

Oh, if you come to Melbourne, you've got to to go to Central and try the "Director's Suite". Makes gold class look like it's electroplated on.
A friend took me there the other week. The ONLY draw back to it I can even think of is that the seats are too far apart to get some "fun" going on off screen.
Will do!

If you're ever up in Bris, don't go to the Gold Class, not the one at Chermside at least. It's pretty bad. The last time we went (Burn after Reading), they screwed up basically everything. Ah well, hopefully now that that Magnum promotion is over it'll get better as there'll be less bogans around.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I like Director's Suite... They don't even promote. You either know about it from someone, or you wonder why the fuck you'd ever pay $35 to see a movie.
And bogans *shudder* I'm wondering if I should run an UggBoot campaign on FB for Ipswich, Redfern and Frankston ;)
