Can I sue Jon (and a couple of mods) for negligence if someone scams me in SBT?

Well, yeah. It's not about them suing. It's not even about them winning. I guess the biggest question is can they possibly be awarded punitive damages and/or lawyer's fees?

That's the only thing that *slightly* worries me.

If a lawyer knows that they can get compensated by getting money from me instead of their client -- the (poor) plaintiff, then he/she might be willing to take on the case.

It would suck to lose $50 in actual damages + $10,000 in plaintiff's legal costs compensation.

Dude they have no case. Let them sue if they want which they likely will not. You'll feel better after you speak to your lawyer and he tells you the same thing.
 
Disclaimer FTW. I have one up on my forum as well as iTrader installed to give users a little more peace of mind when dealing with the other members.
 
Sounds like you need to worry more about your mod than getting sued.

Attorneys (good ones at least) don't take cases like this without being paid up front. And paying an attorney up front is hugely, insanely, unjustifiably expensive. Like $1000 for a decent letter expensive.

I am no lawyer, but in my experience the main times you have to really worry are:

1) Cases like employment discrimination, personal injury, etc. where there is a high chance of a quick settlement so lawyers will take the cases on a contingency basis

2) Large companies that have attorneys on staff who are already a sunk cost and bored and need to justify their own existence by fucking with other, smaller businesses

e.g. if someone gets murdered IN YOUR HOME, you can be sued by surviving family if the situation was due to your negligence. Likewise, if someone falls down your front steps and hurts themselves, you can be sued. More so if your house is a public meeting place.

I think you're fine regardless, but you should have some type of disclaimer up...

how much $ are we talking about? if its a $40 logo i wouldnt lose any sleep
