Can someone explain this Obamacare shit to me?

My insurance didn't change anything today. At the beginning of the year they added a $2,000 deductible in addition to the co-pays. It's a group policy through my gf's work and it's been around $850/mo for the 2 of us for a few years.

When I used to work construction I had a premera blue cross blue shield policy that was complete bullshit, they flat out declined to fill a prescription because it was expensive.

I nailed my current insurance provider with 6 figures in bills at age 28 after not going to a doctor in 10 years. Shit goes great until all the sudden there's a problem. The medical system is completely fucked. You really pay 3 co-pays/bills when you go to the "specialist", once at initial appt and they schedule the test, when you come back to have the test, and when you come back the 3rd time to get the results and schedule another test.

These exchanges are a waste of taxpayer money. You could always buy insurance as an individual from an insurance agent. I've had my own policy for about 10 years.

Now every plan has to meet the asinine King Obama standards. It was bad having states restrict freedom of choice with respect to plans. Now, it's 10x worse since a federal bureaucrat is determining what plans should be illegal and legal.

By the way, forcing insurance companies to accept people with pre-existing conditions is like letting people buy car insurance after they have an accident and then letting them put a claim right then and there. It's systematic wealth redistribution from existing policy holders to new ones. Insurance is based on probabilities and doesn't work if people know in advance who will be the winners and the losers.

I've liked walking into the municipal ER, getting treated, getting a free night's sleep in a comfy bed, free saline and Sprite, a meal, and then walking out the next day to go back under the bridge and shoot some more smack. Now I can do it guilt free! Thanks, Obama!

Hypothetical situation ( Not trying to be an ass)

What if you finish university start looking for a job (You don't have insurance yet), then you get cancer? You pay out of pocket for treatment, but what happens if you don't have the money?

Lets say you beat the cancer, and get a job. How much will you pay for insurance ( You're a 27 year old male, healthy non smoker, but you had cancer). Will the insurance companies deny you if you had cancer or make your bill really high?

I'm curious, not trying to a prick.

Any place will let you make payments...

Obamacare is so awesome Congress made sure to exempt themselves from it.

lol government

Obama care.... I don't understand shit about how the country works. How does someone who really has no understanding about voting, government, congress and all that get up to speed on what is going on. Where the fuck should I be reading my news from?

You're not an ass, nor a prick. You're a fucking retard.

Did you read any bit of this thread before chiming in?

The day you find out you have cancer, buy the insurance. They can't deny you. What part of that didn't you get?

Jeebus.

From what I read they can deny you and will. Insurance doesn't make sense if you buy it last minute. Why would they let you pay a few hundred dollars last minute for insurance to get thousands in coverage?

Explain it like I am retarded, because not all of us have to deal with your retarded system, thanks!

Actually, they can and will deny coverage - even in retrospect - if they find out you knew beforehand.

To sum it up

In your case if you are in good health, have no pre-existing conditions, then you would be much better off getting your own private healthcare insurance through any of the number of existing insurance companies (blue cross, aetna, ect). It will be cheaper, you will get more benefits, and you won't have to be the guinea pig to all the fuckups that are likely going to happen with claims under these new obamacare plans.

If you are older or have pre-existing conditions that would cause private insurance to be astronomical, then you are much better off going with the obamacare plans.

Basically what it boils down to is under obama's-care :healthy individuals, with no prior conditions, who are between the ages of 20-40 are subsidizing the insurance premiums for all the people who are older, with a myriad of health problems. So instead of getting a discount and paying less for your healthcare premiums, you pay the same as everyone else and get screwed.

I wonder how well Obamacare would do with the proletariat if this book were read by all:

And then imagine if this book were read by all:

And since we're going nuts, what if everyone read this book:

Obama knows his scheme is economically fallacious. The insurance companies know it is economically fallacious. They also know the masses do not understand basic economic law. Selling them bullshit is easy. Coupled with the "right" to steal monies through taxation and debt monetization, and the ability to mold public behavior through passage of arbitrary law...

... well, it's good to be king.

as far as I can figure obamacare takes the same shitty healthcare system we have now and instead of reforming it locks it into place. the bone that is dropped to us is that everything has to be covered which should be the case considering you are being forced to buy insurance. also I'm pretty sure almost everyones cost for getting insurance is going to go up, especially if you don't get it through an employer. I think our healthcare system sucks. If you're gonna socialize something it might as well be healthcare, most people in countries that have this wouldn't give it up despite it problems. Perhaps a system that was far more govt free would have worked well too but thats never going to happen. now we have a optional/mandatory/free market/socialized/regulated to death partial birth abortion of a health care system that sucks on almost every level.

It is basically a healthcare ponzi scheme. The strapping young men who make up the majority of this forum are going to pay hefty fees for healthcare even though our young families are healthy. The money we pay basically go to the poor old folks who like Princess cruises and new cadillacs.

The "ponzi scheme" for the "old folks" has been around since 1965. (Medicare)

Not sure how accurate they are, but according to some, those recipients will actually now get less.

Romney’s right: Obamacare cuts Medicare by $716 billion. Here’s how.

What is sure to increase is enrollment in Medicaid. (the low income program, which has also been around since 1965)

Medicaid Automatic Enrollment - West Virginia's Eyewitness News

Some 45,000 West Virginians have signed up for automatic enrollment in Medicaid in the past two weeks, and a state official said that's easing the pressure on the new online health insurance marketplace.

The Department of Health and Human Resources recently sent 118,000 letters informing families they automatically qualify under new thresholds stemming from the federal Affordable Care Act.

Health Care is a huge problem, especially for unsuccessful entrepeneurs. In Germany, they assume a base income of around $2750 and you have to pay 15,5% on that. Doesn't matter if you make 0$ , or a couple of hundreds ....you need to pay. If you don't....you won't be able to visit the doctors office, but debt still continues to accumulate...with hefty interests, of course. So over 400$ each month ...cost of doing business i suppose, but thats enough for a month of rent in some regions. I'm not against health care, on the contrary....but 400$ monthly for someone who might earn ZERO...you gotta be shitting me.

It absolutely boggles the mind that anyone would be against:

* A free market health exchange that is NOT federally funded
* Removal of pre-existing conditions on health insurance policies

The idea that the economy will tank because people have access to competitive health insurance is ludicrous, and simply mis-information.

This isn't true. North Carolina, for example, passed legislation that they would not be offering a health insurance exchange.

Also, the tax for not being insured is much higher than you mentioned, and (like most/all taxes) it's just another example of extortion.

North Carolina's exchange is integrated with the nationwide exchange site: https://www.healthcare.gov

If you cannot be adult enough to by even basic $100 / mo coverage for your health, then you should be penalized. Why? Because I don't want to pay for your healthcare when you can't afford urgent care for something.

Hope that helps.
