I was just thinking, I spend most of my time on the computer, and most of that time typing stuff. Whether I'm writing an article, setting up a campaign, or sending an email, I'm typing. I now realize that I can type fairly fast, but not well.

Can you type well? I type with my pointers, middle fingers, and occasionally my thumbs. I'm pretty fast, but very inaccurate.

Do you think it would be worth learning how to actually type? I'm sure there's some sort of online learn-to-type program...

yeah i think its worth it to learn how to type, i mean thats how i do it, using the "home row" and shit, but thats just how i learned from the get go. i can do about 80 words per minute. but im also on a computer all day.

Opposable thumbs FTW.

Fuck ya it's worth it. Mavis taught me everything I know. I miss her and those speed challenges.

learn now before the injuries start. Plus you will learn to type way faster and more accurate with proper technique. If you have real balls learn the DVORAK keyboard layout, will take awhile to relearn but once you got it down it's great and so much less stressful on the hands.

To this day I stand by the statement that Typing was the most useful class I ever took in school. I've certainly utilized it more than anything else...

I type 100+ words per minute consistently. I've only ever met one person who typed faster, but he used a Dvorak keyboard.

ps. If I ever get the chance to purchase a tld name it'll definitely be .comm (probably the most common typo I make)

+1
Best software my parents ever invested in, took me from hunt and peck to touch typing. I take online "classes" from time to time to brush up.

Odd you should mention that - I just finished reading up on the DVORAK layout, think I'm going to give it a shot. Want to make sure if I learn it that I can make the change at work first though.

I grew up with a teacher as a neighbor , she always told my Mom (I was Homeschooled) that we needed to have a typing tutor, ect to learn proper "Form" Typing.

A year or two later she came back and saw that we were typing something in the range of 140WPM, far faster than she could type. Amazed , she asked what kind of course we took to teach us to type this fast, an my answer was "AOL Chat rooms".

I can't explain how I type , but I know there's no form to it, I've just typed on PCs for years now and I don't think about it.

I no longer can type at 140wpm, however I'm in the comfortable 90wpm or so range.

I can type pretty fast, but on my desktop I think my typing time is beginning to become hindered by this damned keyboard. The keys are too big and pressing them wears down on my finger muscles too much...I find typing on my laptop to be much easier. Also I hate the fucking click that comes with every keystroke.

I can type pretty fast but I'm not a perfect speller so that slows me down a little.

During my qwerty days I averaged 125 WPM, with very few typos.

Last December I picked up a Kinesis Advantage keyboard and switched to Dvorak, my hands are a lot more relaxed now but I still haven't caught up to my qwerty speeds.

I learned with Mavis Beacon in school, and it was also probably one of the most useful classes I ever took. I currently consistently type 110+wpm now, in large part because I grew up learning to type the 'best' way.

I tried learning DVORAK last summer, but it became so frustrating, and I kept resorting back to QWERTY when I needed to get something done.

I did some typing game/test on facebook a few months ago and consistently got 100+ words per minute with 90% accuracy.
Not that i'd ever take up a typists job.

OMG i did mavis beacon too!! hahahah my dad forced me to do it and yes, I am glad even though I fucking hated it

I had to take Typing- though I think it was called "keyboarding"- in middle school and 9th grade. I do not use any of those skills.

I type, but my hands are not in the right position. It works, but I doubt I can change at this point. I am so used to how I do it.

haha I type faster then my brain can comprehend and I use the correct typing style, however because of how fast I type I do make a lot of errors (Both in grammar and in spelling).

So is it worth while to learn how to type without errors the answer is no, type your draft first as it comes natural to you and then re-read, fix the errors and re-type.

Its called proofreading and its a helpful skill haha.

78 WPM with 94% accuracy here. Typing was probably the only class in HS that actually helped me in the real world. Don't have to look at the keyboard and can spit out works relatively quickly.

Yeah, I type very fast and accurate. I use all my fingers on each hand. :)
