The problem with our food is the portion sizes and the fact that the typical American's diet revolves around an 18th century lifestyle.
FTFY. Steak and potatoes is fine if people actually exercised.

I'm not trying to belittle America here, because I've no doubt it's the same the world over, but I watched a program with Jamie Oliver, who travelled to America (I think it was the Huntingdon series) and tried to help people eat better.
Well, he went to a primary school and quizzed children on what various vegetables were and hardly any could name more than a couple. Then he showed how they're fed fucking flavoured milk (which the heath authority says is good for them or some bollocks) and that they generally live off shit.
Obviously they need viewers, so there's no doubt some spin and careful editing involved, but I was shocked that the powers that be wouldn't let him feed them healthier stuff, because they (the FDA or someone) had decided they need "a bread" amongst other crap. It was fucking ludicrous.
I have no idea what Jamie is doing in the US
FUCKING BAN MCDONALDS, BURGER KING, KFC AND EVERY OTHER GREASE SPEWING FAST FOOD PLACE!
Oh wait, you can't do that. You'd lose money on tax. Forgive me. I forgot.

Kids that age in any school/country are only just learning what vegetables are.

I bet you they can name every fucking meal in Mcdonald's
Whatever happened to taking your own lunch to school? That's what happened when I was a kid at least. Take a bagged lunch to school, and sit around and eat it with your friends during lunch break. Then when you hit 13/14, you were in high school, and lunch was up to you. Stay in the school and eat your own, or head out somewhere. Loads of restaurants & fast food joints setup right around the school just for that reason.
But since when did it become the school's responsibility to feed the kids? And not just feed them, but feed them to everyone's liking?
Isn't a tomato a fruit?
Ha, the more things change, the more they stay the same...Obviously, back when the food pyramid was being constructed in washington, the Farmers unions or even Corporate farms had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much lobbying power on capital hill.
Exercising doesn't give you free reign to have a shitty diet.
Saw a study online where they said majority of kids nowadays can name more brands than animals.
Most countries have poor eating habbits. If they are so worried about the US/UK/EU dying from a heart attack from nasty food the answer is simple ...
