I know this question is extremely N00b. I have successful sites (not huge revenue but still significant), but I've just never run into this problem where I can't find a single domain that seems great. Please read and help me out if you guys don't mind. Thanks!

My key phrase that I'm targeting is 4 words.

This isn't it, but this would be an example: soccer moves for boys. And my attempted domain would be soccermovesforboys.com, which is taken. I don't want to use dashes because it would be very long and would be a lot of dashes (soccer-moves-for-boys.com).

.com, .net, .info, .org, etc. are taken.

.co, .biz, .us, .me are available. I know that this doesn't effect google ranking and SEO. But what's the best domain name just to avoid confusing people, etc. I've read that .biz is frowned upon in general. And .co can confuse people.

Alternatively to these domain extensions, I could add an extra "s" at the end of the word. so it would be soccermovesforboyss.com

Or I could do e-soccermovesforboys.com?? I don't know. Just guessing here. What's my best play? thanks!

Why not just get a brandable .com? You can usually find something if you get creative. I personally wouldn't use any of the examples you gave. I used to use exact match domains a lot, but now am trying to go with brandable domains for everything.

Have you tried using tools like these:

Lean Domain Search | Find a great domain name in seconds
Domain Search

Even for competitive niches where nearly everything is taken, I've usually found something decent with the tools above.

EMD are soooo dead. Especially 4 words. Even if you have super legit site, 4 word EMD may kill all its benefits in the Google's eyes. So stay away from them and focus on something legit and valuable instead. As my colleague said above, better find a brandable domain.

have to disagree

sorry to disagree with you mate but EMD are alive and kicking

the issue is when you have a emd and not let the emd stand on its own 2 feet and you try and over optimize that EMD.. to make it look like

you got the emd just to rank in the first place

am I making any sense??? :)

Sure you are making sense. But still, soccermovesforboys.com looks very spammy and here I'm agree with G. EMD are alive but probably not 4 word ones :338:

Dude, the domain name is probably the least significant determining factor in your success UNLESS you're building a massive brand or relying on word of mouth traffic. If you're relying on social, ads, or SEO, where people just click on a link to access your site, then it really doesn't matter too much. You're FAR better off getting something functional today and building that site than not registering anything and letting a great idea fade away into nothingness.

Just get SOMETHING and start building it now. You can always 301 it through to another site if you find you're starting to have issues. But, you can't go back in time and build your site 6 months earlier if you don't do anything.

What about something like bestsoccermoves.com .net or .org? Or easysoccermoves.com?

Oh I absolutely agree. I'm not going to delay my site building over a domain name. I chose my domain today and I'm going ahead with it.

I found a domain that contains some of my key words, and is also short, memorable, and somewhat brandable. So I compromised. And like people have said in this thread, what really will determine my success is the content, the SEO work that I do, the links I build, etc.

TY all for the help.

What about something like bestsoccermoves.com .net or .org? Or easysoccermoves.com?

I'm not sure if you're suggesting these as specific examples or just ideas for how to alter a domain. I want to specify that my website is not about soccer moves at all. That was just an example I gave. I didn't want to say my actual domain or niche when I hadn't even gotten a domain yet. Hopefully that makes sense. TY for the help though, I appreciate it.

You did right. EMDs do have value, even in the present times but your move to opt for a brandable, keyword inclusive domain name is the way to go.

Maverick 2.0 I have been trying to get a hold of you about your youtube services but your post is closed and I can't pm. How can I contact you?

Please advise

Thanks

I am with Louey37. domain name is not going to matter if you are just doing seo to rank .

grab anything and get to work . one good way is to scout for domain at godaddy auctions .

you might find a cheap but good one over there .

emd will never die not in the present future anyway but i believe that is just a temp setback and kudos for not allowingyourself to be sidetracked bro! in rretrospect, something brandable would create value in the long run too.

Have you tried switching around the words or shortening 4 words to 3 words? You can use a brainstorm session to see what you come up with. Have you tried things like .tk, .fr, and etc.?

I still think EMD still hold a lot of value but that is only when its backed up by great site with unique quality content. You cant just have 4 Word EMD and think thats ok to throw up some articles and think you can rank. it wont last.
