Ok, so for my birthday my wife decided to go and get my car washed and detailed. It's new, still has the temp plates on it. She brings it back home and we look it over... not only did they do a shitty job washing it, there's 4 or 5 scratches on the right rear passenger door.

The car wash is the kind where an attendant drives your car into an automated wash tunnel and then hand wash/dry & vacuum after.

We get them on the phone to make sure there's a manager on duty and head down to have him see wtf they did to my car. We get there and the manager's a giant tool from the get-go. "They don't have anything at their car wash that would cause those kind of scratches" and "You probably got those at a parking lot somewhere." I like to take care of my things, and scratches like that I would've noticed. In fact, I looked the car over before my wife took it in. I'm 100% sure the scratches happened at their car wash. I tell them I expect a refund for the shitty wash job, and I expect them to fix the scratches. The dude proceeds to tell us (with an attitude) all the reasons why it's not their fault, and that he won't issue a refund because the cost of the $40 wash & detail is mostly for the interior. He says they can run it through the wash again and hit the spots they missed, but I tell him I don't want them touching my car again, I just want a refund and my scratches fixed.

Anyway, long story short, I'm going over this ass clown's head to talk to general manager/owner of the wash to get the situation taken care of. The GM is out of the office 'til tomorrow, so I want to have my shit together when I talk to him.

On top of the car bs, I've never received that kind of treatment from any manager at any business anywhere. Completely disrespectful and unprofessional. I'm not big on revenge or payback... but I would like to teach that dude a lesson about how to treat a customer.

How would you guys handle this situation?

Since you can't prove it's their fault (after all, your wife did have it before/after) just get the fucker fixed. I highly doubt your auto insurance deductible is so low that it'd make a worthwhile claim, but dude, that's life.

You cannot go blaming everyone everytime you get sand in your gaping vagina. It's not like they tried to sell you 3D glasses at a fucking movie. If that were the case, I'd take the issue all the way to the US Supreme Court, but it's not so STFU and move the fuck on.

I know how you feel. I've had an Audi tire explode in a tunnel car wash because there track was misaligned - saw the entire thing happen - they still denied it and I was stuck buying a new tire cause the fucking PoPo get there cars washed there and wouldn't take sides in the report. Keep in mind I saw it happen.

A few scratches should buff out with some good wax. I know it's a PITA but that's life.

This is America, I'm supposed to find someone else to blame.

To top things off, I went in today to get the sand removed from my gaping vagina and they scratched my labia. Now I'm *really* pissed.

I feel bad about it and I think you are right in your thought to tackle this. Do update us about the progress

Yet another insightful and informative post. Where are all these douchebags coming from?

In regards to the car, never take a vehicle through an automated car wash tunnel if you don't want to run the risk of it getting scratched. A little bit of sand or mud stuck to the brushes/rollers from a previous vehicle, or some off of yours, being whipped around at high speed will scratch the shit out of your car.

You should use a touchless car wash system. Don't you guys have coin op wash bays with high pressure water guns with rinse/soap/water conditioner settings over there? They're awesome.

When you talk to the manager make sure you make your case that the issue is clear - the car was not scratched prior and was after. Also, it's brand new.

However, about all you can ask for is a refund and outside body detailing paid for to be done at another firm. That should hopefully buff out the scratches. If they are too deep than a re-paint (by the Dealer only) should be necessary.

Car washes have liability insurance. There's a reason.

Never take a car through an automated car wash unless it's a beater or you don't care.

If the scratches are light where you can't feel them when you run your finger nail over them they should be able to be removed with light polishing compound. I'd just take it to the dealer and they should be able to fix that for cheap if not for free. Worst case if the door had to be repainted I'd never file that with insurance. No new car ever withstands scratches.

I see you're in Colorado, am I right? What's your deductible?

The Associated Press: 5 tornadoes touch down in Colorado, mall damaged

You were at the mall this weekend, were you not?

hey wait... I *am* in Colorado, I have a low deductible, and I'm pretty sure I *was* at that mall now that I think about it. Yeah, I think that's the ticket...

Yeah, won't be doing the automated tunnel thing again, although the scratches look like they came from the manual wash/dry as they're not straight lines. I've done the coin op bays, but I'm not a big fan of manual labor. Maybe I should buy some shamwows and hire college girls to do it. That or just never wash it again like I did with my last car... and the car before that.

What's the point of even having your car washed if the local high school girls soccer team isn't having a hand-carwash fundraiser?

They will never scratch your car.

Your fault for taking it to an automated wash. You get what you pay for.

Well, like I said, based on the scratch pattern it wasn't the wash machines that scratched it... it was the employees doing the manual wipe down & dry after.

Excellent point. I had been holding out for the cheer squad, but they just couldn't get it together.
