Chicago police scandals lead to no swat team - wtf?

The interim superintendent said he wasn't going to fuck with the swat teams because of the recent police scandals in Chicago, IL

Big surprise... they cut 14 officers and re-assign them to different units.

This leaves Chicago with fewer swat officers than quite a few cities (even smaller ones)

On a larger scale - New York (500+)

Smaller scale - Portland, OR (55)


What does this say for the US's chances at bringing the Olympics here...
Not Only that...
But Chicago in a whole...

Hahah, yeah. Holding the Olympics here would be an international disaster. Daley can't even keep basic public transit for current riders operational (and safe), or properly organize a local Marathon (the city basically lost control of a recent major Marathon, people died).

Daley runs his administration like a thug. Sometimes that means getting shit done with mafia-like efficiency, but it also means nobody else gets a say. He's been accused on occasion of shady business (including ties to the mob), but nothing's ever been proven.

Yeah, but we've got the world BEST hot dogs and pizza! I don't think you can go anyplace else in the world and get a dog and a bag of fries for less than 2 bucks. And they're so good it's almost like an orgasm.

Speaking of BEST hot doggies... man, I used to go right to the Kosher Best factory store off south state st. for lunch. That's about the only thing I miss. Oh yeah and the two competing Maxwell Street dog stands right by the UPS depot. You can get sox and pussy in a box there, too. :eek:

There are way too many good pizza joints to even begin to list. My mouth is watering.

Anyway... back on topic... sucks about the swat team but that's life in the big city, eh? Who gets fucked with first? Cops and firemen... it's only natural, but they never give up. Ever walk into the headquarters precinct at 11th and state? The fucking headquarters building!... and the precinct house around back is a fucking hole! Just shows ya what the city cares about its cops.
 
SWAT teams are usually bad news. Chicago police are known for corruption and SWAT teams are generally known for being incompetent, breaking into the wrong houses, being used in situations where there is no danger and actually CREATING the danger, and so on. I recommend reading some Radley Balko.
 
A big city like Chicago may have a use for SWAT, I don't know. But there is a creeping "militarization of Mayberry"- where more and more towns are using SWAT just to showoff their fancy military equipment and cause destruction and terrorize local citizens. SWAT isn't really meant for its most common uses like: murdering suicidal people ( who are nonviolent, breaking in houses because of medical marijuana use, using flash bang grenades to disorient ( real safe there) often at the wrong house while serving illegal warrants, beating old ladies, and so on.

There are some legit uses, in the case where someone is armed/violent and poses a threat, but I would imagine even in big cities 90%+ use of SWAT is not appropriate.

p.s. I also know a lot of people here support Ron Paul, so they might know what I'm talking about. At least if you are from the libertarian side, have an interest in federalism, read reason, or anything like that.
