China is Holding the World's Supply of Rare Earth Metals Hostage

But uh really though I wonder if this might also lead into some kind of a value backed currency proposal from them sometime.

Sounds like the same old thing we've always seen from them... It's in their ground, afterall...

Nothing new here. They used this to beat Japan over the head last year over that ship Japan was holding.

There are other places to mine the rare earths but everyone let China do it because they were doing it cheaper. There is a big mine in the US and one in AU that they started working on after the Japan deal but it is going to take a couple of years to get them up and actually producing.

Again and again we give China a bunch of power over us to save a few bucks.

This is like a republication of an article from last year. This "crisis" was over in a few weeks and then it was business as usual.
