Tesla lashes out at Chris Christie - Mar. 11, 2014

Politicianfags in NJ don't like Tesla selling their fine ass cars directly to consumers.

Christie spokesman Kevin Roberts said New Jersey would press the matter.
"Since Tesla first began operating in New Jersey one year ago, it was made clear that the company would need to engage the Legislature on a bill to establish their new direct-sales operations under New Jersey law," he said.

"This administration does not find it appropriate to unilaterally change the way cars are sold in New Jersey without legislation," he added, "and Tesla has been aware of this position since the beginning."

Christie has the support of Jim Appleton, who is president of the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers, also known as NJ Car. Appleton said that Tesla never should have been approved to sell cars directly in New Jersey in the first place.

"Tesla is a wonderful product but unfortunately the company has chosen an unwise and in New Jersey unlawful distribution method," he said.

Appleton explained that dealers protect consumers because "an auto manufacturer is congenitally incapable of fully and faithfully honoring warranty and safety recall obligations."

I like the Tesla model of selling direct. Dealerships as a middleman to the consumer are a waste. Unfortunately most of the manufacturers make too much money from their dealerships to abandon that model. The flooring (interest dealers pay on the vehicles sitting on their lots) alone can be a million bucks a month depending on the manufacturer and how much inventory the dealerships stock at any given time. Manufacturers like that flooring interest coming in. It sucks that NJ is getting their panties in a wad because Tesla doesn't feel like opening tons of dealers and dealing with that hassle. I'm sure NJ would like the jobs created, but get the hell over it.

Ironic quote considering it is Christie wanting to change how cars are sold in NJ.

They don't have self-serve gas pumps in NJ (many many decades spent in protection of the gas pumping profession) so don't think Trenton is jump on its feet to wave Tesla the hell in.

It's for our saftey? Where have I heard this before? So auto manufacturers can't be trusted? Dealers are more trustworthy? Who do they think pays for warranty and recall work? The dealers? Is it not possible for a manufacturer to work out a deal and pay a "authorized mechanic"?

True. Spent plenty of time in NJ and never understood the whole "you can't pump your own gas" thing. Pretty sure Oregon is the only other state with that idiotic practice.

Archaic business models being preserved because of the fear and inability to embrace emerging trends...

I like seeing industries get turned on their heads. Makes our future in online marketing look bright.

As annoying as it is, it's not going to matter if a few isolated states decide to play stupid. Tesla sells high end cars, their customers are capable of driving across the border to buy them directly from Tesla or ordering them online and having them shipped to their home. When Tesla comes out with their lower price point cars, these dumb states (NJ, TX, etc) will look pretty stupid.

Their direct sales model is awesome. Their product is near perfection, it sells itself. This coming from a used car dealer that drives a Tesla.

Some people find it's a difficult task.

I believe New Jersey is attempting to avoid the economic disaster of consumers saving a little money and spending it elsewhere. We've all read about how the world nearly ended when the tractor was invented. Every tractor that came off the assembly line cost 30 able bodied men their jobs. If it wasn't for the heroic efforts of the government, unions, and associations, we would have slipped back in to the stone age. The free market would have just let all of those unallocated resources stagnate. Thank God we have the selfless men and women of government and associations to look out for us.

Tesla should get a huge ass balloon in the image of that fat fuck Christie and fly it over the closed location. Maybe have a giant donut shoved up his ass.

He does have a deliciously large ass.

There's a showroom at a mall nearby. I'm starting to see the Model S everywhere. Only seen 1 roadster in the past few yrs.

Good, free publicity for Tesla.

What's to stop Tesla opening a show room where people can look at the car, but not buy it? i.e. they are instructed to go to a neighbouring state to purchase.

Reminds me of when San Fransisco tried to shut down Uber.

Big business & politics go hand in hand and those greedy fucks, don't like change!
