Wow, I was supposed to put this thread up on Tues when I mentioned it in the WMR chat room. It's freaking Friday and I'm still working on this damn web design project. Don't these people know I have shitty arbi sites to test? It's amazing what a little capitalism did to my once perfectionist web design aesthetic. As always, I digress...

Here's what happened: Was doing a little PPC affiliate testing for a small niche on ebay. (Special thanks to JDog's thread for leading the way). The CTR from my landing page to ebay was jumping around 20-35% for almost a week. I decided to put my GAnal (hehe) code on the landing page to track things more. The next morning my CTR dropped to 3% and under. WTF!

I panicked and called CJ Support. The woman I spoke with didn't sound like the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree, but she seemed to know her CJ stuff. She sent me a rather generic email that didn't say much except "the clicks may register as different for each program you use".

I called back. Finally she says. "I would suggest you take it off". I say "You're telling me it's not compatable? Is it messing with my aff tracking." Very long pause. "I am not at liberty to say. Again, I would recommend using our tracking."

I took it off and the CTR for the next three days was 35%. Also, I made 5-20 sales every day this campaign was on so far. The one day I had GAnal on? No sales...

If you are trusting CJ to track you have a hole in your pocket.

If you are sharing your tracking data with Google you are loading a gun for someone to hold to your head.

Not if you wear a tinfoil hat.

I wonder if statcounter could be doing the same thing. Mmmm.....

I have no shame in asking dumb ass questions, so I will ask two now:

-How can I/would you suggest tracking my CJ campaigns?

-Don't a lot of people around here use Google Analytics? If not, what do you use?

:bigear:

I use Google Analytics and StatCounter, but I avoid CJ like the bubonic plague. Right now, most of my stuff is Copeac, but I have some other CPA networks running right now. As far as I can tell, the code from all play nice.

Try using the "legacy" HTML code that CJ has, rather than the JS.
