neeewwb question...:uhoh2:

If you had to choose only 1 for your afil links which would it be? Cloak or Nofollow?

I usually do both but anyone know which is better?

both are for different reasons, cloak is for the users whereas nofollow is more to prevent linkjuice from flowing away..

Cloaking your no-follow paid links sounds clever. I suspect some will do it. Maybe if you are very,very, very clever, you will succeed. For my part: I won’t do it, or write a plugin to do it, because it’s unethical. But, even if it weren’t, I know I’d screw it all up and burn myself.

Cloaking will disguise the link so that the user will not know where they will go when they click the link. It also helps to cloak if you want to hide your affiliate link from google.

Nofollow is completely different. From Wikipedia;

A nofollow link is used to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring.

A nofollow link is not disguised, unless you cloak it.

I feel much the same as you. Great way to shoot myself in the foot! :ak:

I see, thanks for the detailed explanation.

I've heard of stories of people changing your affiliate link to profit someone else. :uhoh2:

So to sum it up, cloak is for my own peace of mind and a Nofollow on your affiliate link is just for the search engines...

Guess it just better to be safe, Will continue to do both :)

I just cloak because it seems to have minimal risk as far as losing sales to browser/tech issues. I don't want to experiment with nofollow and miss out on profits because of some stupid problem.
