CMU degree vs. 200k ?

I get that. But studying in Switzerland costs a fraction of that as far as I know. Same with most countries. Why go for the ridiculously expensive american ones?

Because those ridiculously expensive American ones are the best in the world.

Without considering the education factor, I think the life experience and connections you will make will be worth it.

I did a bachelors at a US state university and a masters in Norway. There was zero difference in the quality of education (unless you count ridiculously high tuition as a difference).

You work on the internet so location isn't a factor. Take the money you saved up and spend it studying/traveling abroad. Not only will you get a good education at a fraction of the price, but you'll also get an experience that most US students don't.

Do some networking while you're there. You have some impressive accomplishments that other will take notice of. Leverage that. Be known as that internet genius/entrepreneur prodigy on campus. (Just don't let it go to your head.)

Also, I'd consult with your CPA, but you can write off your tuition/books/etc. because they would be furthering your current profession, not teaching you a new skill. So think about that as your 30%+ off coupon.

Already tried this - you can't write it off.

I know you are trolling, but if, and if you ever get the chance to attend CMU, go for it. I know you would anyway, if you got the chance, ie.

I'm almost certain you can, in Australia you 100% can and I can't see anything different in the US taxation system that would suggest otherwise.

What your accountant most likely said was that they suggest you don't try to write it off because it'll set off an audit flag and the cost to benefit ratio isn't worth it.

I'm only weighing the degree option because apart from academics, I'll get to network with some bright minds, scholars and scientists.
Only to get there and to start wondering how did these bunch of retards get here?

I know nothing about what CMU is, but I am pretty sure that it is what it will be like.

Remember that wickedfire has a lot of people, who, for one reason or another, never graduated.

They need to justify this to themselves.
I graduated, but would I recommend someone who is claiming to have 6-figures in web assets while living in 3rd world country to blow 4 years and 200k on "education"? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Three cousins, four uncles, and one aunt has gone there. Actually, one cousin is graduating in may for Business. The rest majored in CS. All of them got great jobs and make 6 figures a year (not saying you can't from where you at). A CS degree or engineering degree from CMU is well worth the time and effort. Any other major, I'd say no. There is one senior in the business school who has a standing offer (job) right now. That is scary as shit considering you're paying $200k as an investment in getting a good job to jump start your career.

Also, large corporations like BoA, Wells Fargo, Barclays, etc. readily hire their top 5% of CS and engineering.

I got into CMU pretty easily but decided not to go because I went elsewhere from entrepreneurship. Same price, but a better learning system.

You can do that at conventions/events.

College is where most people go to party and experiment with drugs.

and yes, I have a Computer Engineering degress from the most expensive school in America (2011).

I have not gone to college and agree with you that you need to get all that out of your system. And I don't want to regret it either as I have not honestly had the college experience. But at the same time I want to build my business and make lots of money so I am trying to find a balance . enjoy myself and grab a whole bunch of ass and chicks but also build my business long term and make a fuck ton of money.

I thought about moving near a college and hooking up with parties close by and just taking things from there. I don't think going through the enrollment process is worth the time and having to study from professors whose only real world experience is from a text book they have wrote is really worth it.

I might register/enroll in the school and just play the schools sports for four years. would have plenty of parties and would still be able to get it out of my system. But would still have time to focus on building my business.

LOL he's not gonna have anything close to that experience at CMU, unless he knows some people at Pitt. And if he spends too much time in that scene, he won't make it through the first year at CMU.

Only to get there and to start wondering how did these bunch of retards get here?

I know nothing about what CMU is, but I am pretty sure that it is what it will be like.

It would be like that at a lot of schools, but in a CS class at CMU, everyone in the room will be able to do the same shit as you- some a little bit better, some not as much. The stuff they teach to upper-division undergrads is about the same level as what is taught in a Master's program at a typical public school.

I know what you mean, and I guess I've never been to CMU, but I'm pretty sure it's quite a bit different. Due to family pressure, I tried going back to adult high school + college three times to get that infamous high school diploma, but I dropped out everytime within a week or two. I just couldn't stand sitting in some classroom with a bunch of idiots, while listening to some 52yo hag go off about basic algebra or Julius Caesar.

A place like CMU though, a 19yo me would have been in absolute heaven. Constantly surrounded by a bunch of technical geniuses, make some good friends, sit around and chat about the various systems / processes / methodologies you could develop, etc. Fuck me, I would have been over the moon. Instead, I hung out with redneck welders and construction laborers. Good times!
