From Spain.... hows that working out for ya?
As some here are aware, I'm not from Spain, I am a Canadian living in Spain. 300+ days a year of sunshine, beach bars and titties everywhere! There are fairs and festivals throughout the year and a decent night-life. I live in one of the areas of highest unemployment anywhere in Europe, tourism is down, there's been a slight increase in petty crime, but life here is still pretty good. The Spanish people are a resilient and resourceful lot and the underground economy is strong. People will survive.
Real estate and rental prices are at an all time low and are expected to continue falling. I live in a 2.5 bedroom, 3 bathroom villa a couple hundred yards from the beach with nice bars and restaurants nearby. I have 50 foot palm trees in my front yard, a built in firepit BBQ, garden, tiled and partially covered rear courtyard and reliable 10mb internet.
I pay €750 a month for rent, although I could find some really nice places, new, furnished, and never lived in, for €500-600 if I wanted to move a bit further away from Gibraltar. Grocery prices are way down, but the price of gas/utilities has gone up.
My income isn't dependent on the local economy anyway, even though I have several local clients that still have money and are willing to pay my prices for the work I do. I also do work in other currencies, and my girlfriend works in Gib and earns Pounds, so the lower the Euro goes the better it is for me
Is everything perfect in Spain? No. But life is still pretty darn sweet man.
It was great fun watching him vehemently argue about common sense shit to a mirror...
