Computer not booting up...

I got to turn my computer on 2 days ago... it turns on and that's it. A black screen, then the monitor reads no signal. I tried the monitor on another computer and it works fine. It doesnt goto bios or anything, just blank.

I've reseated the video card and ram. Still nothing.

What's next? Is my video card dead? Or mobo/CPU?

How about trying the computer on the good monitor now? Or is this thinking too radical? You sound more worried about the monitor when its the PC you should be testing.

If you don't get to the bios it's either the cpu or mobo, looks like a good time to upgrade.

If it sounds like its doing anything it could be your video card. There's normally a monitor hookup on your motherboard so you could quickly rule out the video card.

Roundabout - I think you misread what I wrote/implied. The monitor is fine. I was referring to the PC.

Rage - There is no video output on the motherboard. I am going to try replacing the mobo battery and run to best buy to test the video card idea. If that's a no-go, I guess it's upgrade time.

The standard way to trouble shoot that is start pulling hardware from the computer until it gives you a diag error

If you get all the way down to the mobo and still no diag then its usually that or your power supply

Does it beep when it starts?

If it beeps more than once/in a weird fashion, describe it. If it doesn't beep, the mobo/CPU/power supply is dead (does it light up? does it make any sound?)

I had the same problem with my PC sometime last year and I ended up buying a new RAM card to make it work again. Why not have it checked by a tech guy?

any lights or noise from a drive, lights on mobo? Could be power supply as well as other things mentioned. Most pc shops have a small tester they can plug your PS into to check it in a couple seconds if you don't know how to test it yourself.

if you have another pc to test the monitor on, then can't you just remove the harddisk from the fucked up computer and put it in the other one? it's most likely a SATA drive and can be easily removed and hooked up.

i recently acquired a harddisk caddy dock. i highly reccommend for these scenarios where life must go on despite difficulties with the machine. thing plugs in by SATA wire or USB so it's pretty nifty.
