Sorry for yet another noob question...
Until recently I wasn't aware that google considers your site with and without "www" to be two different domains.
When I installed wordpress onto my sites through SimpleScripts on my hosting account's UserCP, I created some with "www" and some without. This makes it very confusing for backlinking, and is obviously a careless mistake.
However, I found the same settings within wordpress, where I can change my site URL to include or not include "www". I removed the "www" from all sites so they're all uniform now. It appears to have worked. If you type in any of my sites with a "www", it redirects to the non-www domain. I also went to google webmaster tools and set the non-www version as my preferred domain.
My websites are working fine whichever way you type the URL. There seems to be a 301 redirect, which is great.
But simplescripts still has the "www" listed in my hosting account user CP. Is this an issue? Or is simplescripts simply recording how the website was originally installed, and the info basically means nothing now that I changed it within wordpress? Clearly, I have very little understanding of what SimpleScripts is and how it works and how it interacts with my wordpress sites once they're up and running.. which is probably why I'm asking such a simple question..
Just trying to understand how this all fits together. Obviously I'm not a computer wiz.
