There were two people buried in the sand.
One, the blonde and another dressed up like him.
The blonde got out of the sand under the first blanket. When doing the second blanket, you see that Angel disappears for a split second, he's going under the blanket and the new person, who was under the sand, takes his place. You'll notice that you don't see his face clearly after and when he starts running to the water, only his voice - but that's coming from under the blanket.
