I'm trying to copy and paste content from word into wordpress and it keeps fucking up all the formatting. A couple of weeks ago this worked fine and now it's busted.

Anybody have any ideas as to why and what I can do to fix it? I've tried regular copying and pasting and I've also tried using the 'paste from word' button, the 'paste from plain text' and a whole host of other shit.

To give you some idea of what I am loosing:

Bolded text, hyperlinks and general formatting such as bullet points.

I've always pasted my edited word docs into Microsoft Notepad and then paste from Notepad to Wordpress. Although a process, it's the only way I find to avoid formatting errors.

I got that too recently when it use to work as well.

I have no way around it right now myself, fucking is a headache. Made my writers submit TXT files to me b/c of it

I've had the same problem myself in the past. Normally this is due to the theme you're using not having a full and proper CSS definition set. Lots of premium themes are going to have tons of great shortcodes, yet their standard Ul/LI, H1-5 etc. aren't properly defined.

One thing worth trying out: Paste from Word to Dreamweaver, then copying the source code and pasting into Wordpress from there. Seems like there is a bit less 'lost in translation' that way

It's not the theme unless I'm having the same issue across like 100+ themes and the default wordpress themes as well.

It's something relatively new so I am guessing it's a wordpress update but not entirely sure.

Glad to know it's not just me, hopefully somebody has a solution as it's annoying as fuck. I don't have dreamweaver unfortunately.

Can you save your Word docs as .htm and then open them in a text editor from which you there paste into Wordpress's HTML input after the removing all the header garbage with Word produces? Worth a shot anyways

Click the "Paste from Word" button on the editor toolbar. I'm amazed this actually ever worked for any of you, copying and pasting from Word is a big no-no in all the WordPress communities I know.

That's why I create author accounts on all my sites and ask my writers to write the articles directly within WordPress.

It saves so much time, stress and hassle it's not even funny. Can't believe I've been doing the Word copy-pasting for so long...

TextBroker has a cool feature enabling your accepted articles to automatically post in WP as well. Definite timesaver.

If I copy and paste into notepad then it automatically strips the bold text and hyperlinks though which is extremely what I am trying to avoid.

It's not really an option when you have 50+ part time writers and A LOT of different sites unfortunately.

I've already tried this and it still strips all the formatting.

switch to html view then paste

That still strips all the formatting like bold and hyperlinks.

Thanks for all the ideas so far.
