Country Specific Domains

Hi,

What good are country specific domains (i.e. .co.uk)? Can they be used for ranking in general? Or will they only give you a boost in that country's search engine? For example - You get a PR 4 link from a .co.uk and then a PR 3 link from a .com.au or whatever - will this help me in Google.com at all or JUST those specific SE's?

Anyone know the answer?

Some ccTLD's can be set to global. Some can but I wouldn't trust that it'll give you the result you want.

Something like .tv (Tuvalu) or .me (Montenegro) are ccTLD's but already recognized and accepted by Google as gTLD's. There are more and if you do a search for the information on the Googles you'll find out which.

There's a lot more to signal to Google which country you should rank in that you touched upon in your original post as well. Best move is to start with the right TLD.

Hey Hobbster thanks for the response - pointed me in the right direction.

It seems that you are right that some ccTLD's can be set to global. Google has a whole list - so I can rank some ccTLD's on Google.com However that's just setting a domain for ranking on Google.com. I want to know if I get a link from a NON-GLOBAL ccTLD, if that will help me rank in Google.com

Example:

I get a homepage link from a PR4 .co.uk domain - will this help me in general (google.com) - or will it only help me in Google UK search engine?

I understand ranking a ccTLD on Google.com is only possible with certain specific ccTLD's, but I'm wondering if links from ccTLD's help ranking a TLD on Google.com

Thanks :-)

Do you think a link from bbc.co.uk would not do anything for ranking on google.com? Proceed from there.

When you put it that way... :-) Yes I guess you're right. Possibly an out of balance amount of links from a ccTLD could affect the SE you're ranking in, but at the end of the day an authoritative link is just that.

Thanks

It has to do with the language of the site, the locations of the IP's linking to that site, the ccTLD, etc.

I've got a PR5 site from East Asian country chockfull of .edu's and some .gov links that I set up as a pumper. It's dat crack.

Page Rank juice knows no boundaries, no race, no color. Other metric's might like those in the start of this post, but the juice must flow.

uk cctld can help a uk sites visibility in serps, people often look at the domain before clicking. I know that when I am looking to buy a new fleshlight insert online, I look for a UK stockist, a .uk domain helps in this respect.

However bigger brands in the UK stick with .com as I think this can help with image for bigger brands.

If your site is shit, even .com won't save you. If your site is great and useful, who cares whether it's on .de or .travel? Google doesn't, so don't users.

I guess what I was wondering is if I find country specific domains to be cheaper for a PBN if I can go ahead with those or if they won't help... but I think it's answered here ;-)
