Creating a 'big' second web 2.0 propety to link to money site

I've been a bit scared of doing big scrapebox blasts to my main site. So instead of doing a 'cheap' web 2.0 link wheel of sorts, would there be much benefit of building up a web 2.0 site, creating a number of original quality articles on it, and linking directly (and only to) my money site.

It would look actually be legitimate, but the purpose of it would be as a buffer for links to the money site, and then just blast the living hell out of it.

Is this a bad idea?

Why not get a cheap link wheel, spin some unique content, and stick it on there?

That way you get the best of both worlds! Leave the quality articles for your money sites.

Instead of creating a big web 2.0 site, make yourself another site that YOU own on another domain and let that be the buffer. If you are going to go that "big" then build your own business, not Squidoo's or whoever.

Okay, that is another option. I have no problem with that. I have a good amount of quality content on my money site, but it's been around a long time, and ranks well for some very competitive keywords...

I'm more looking for a way to create something outside itself, that can help build ranking, without risking the money site.

So let's say I did what I said and created a "spin-off" of the money site, as a buffer, and created quality content... but also blasted the piss out of it with SB & XR. How much of that link juice would be passed along, in comparison with linking directly.

I'm really trying to weigh the risk of doing it off-site and removing the risk of de-indexing (site's been around 5 years, and has a lot of quality organic links), against losing some link juice by moving it another level up.

I've had a great strategy to get ALOT of links in, but am a bit afraid of risking my primary money site.

Just put the buffer site that YOU own the domain for on a separate 5 dollar a month hosting, or get SEO hosting for separate c-class IP hosting. Then you won't get smacked. Build a new site and put your money site in it's blog roll so you get a link from every page. Or hell, just give yourself in context links in the articles.

This won't risk your money site as long as you don't leave a foot print like using the same google analytics or adsense. And you can monetize this 2nd site too. Or you can not give a shit about ranking it and just slaughter it with backlinks for the PR boost to your money site.
