That's nothing. In Canada you may be forced to pay child support as long as it can be proved that you had a role of a father figure to that child. You dont even have to marry a single mom, or live with her, or financially support her or her child. As long as it can be proved that you had a relationship with a child you may have to pay child support.
^^ Same with divorce settlements. You don't even have to get married in Canada to have someone take 50% of your shit. Just have to live with each other for I think 6 months or so. The law then recognizes it as a common-law marriage, and voila, you're on the hook for 50%.
