All of my databases have disappeared from a domain I have on a dedicated hostgator box. All of the mysql databases for the main domain and add on domains are not showing on my cpanel anymore. I was getting a 500 internal server error this morning because of a process overload, so the hostgator guy killed the problem processes and I restarted my server.

Now every site has a database error and Hostgator service is telling me this, which I don't know how to deal with.

Thank you for contacting HostGator Support:

You /var/lib/mysql tree (where the actual databases live) has grown to over 5 GB in size. On a 9GB partition, that's a lot.

I would highly recommend moving the MySQL tree to the /home filesystem and linking the path. This requires MySQL to be offline, and will take approximtely 30 minutes.

In the short term, I moved some of the older GZipped log files from /var/log to /home/logs to free up some space. It's not much, but it gives you some time to decide when the MySQL move is best.
He's saying that they can see my databases, but I sure as hell can't. I haven't got a response back on this issue since I responded to his last email, but what the hell can I do at this point. I'm not a server guru, so I don't know where to begin really. I can't believe all of those databases are now suddenly lost. Any suggestions.

If your databases are that big let them move them and link the path.

I've done it on a few servers and it does help when they are that large.

Ohh - and you might want to start thinking about a better server now. My guess is those databases will keep growing right?

You may just want to leave hostgator. You are going to find that if your DB's are that big you want processing speed and fast HD's.

Either one can bottleneck you.

Maybe someone smarter than me can give you some more specific advice :)

That server has a bunch of my money sites and some other old sites but most are Wordpress, so that's the bulk of the databases. They will continue to increase, but I don't add any new domains on that box anymore.

I've had this problem repeatedly. I run a shit ton of a2p sites that run balls to the wall... Eventually had to grab an ssd for mysql and I can say I'm quite pleased. Something to consider if you're upgrading.
