Doing PPC for a local plumber.

Would you shut the ads down anytime during a 24 hour period?

-Midnight -4AM ? ... I was thinking

However, if someone is searching plumber at 2am because of an emergency than I would not pop-up.

Thoughts?

He is a 24hr plumber. However, most are.

I am about to let the campaign go live. I just wanted to avoid any unnecessary impressions.

Maybe over thinking this.

Why would you want to block your highest paying prospects?

Just make sure you've got the geo targeting in check and let it roll.

Test it out..night time traffic could be good for people looking in a pinch or an emergency, and he can charge more. Make sure you track it like crazy though. If it's not profitable to run at certain times, kill them off, or if you notice some hours are way better than others, ramp up some on them.

Leave it on to start and set up an advanced custom report in Google Analytics to test your conversion rate by time of day. Here's how:

(Note, this mainly works for web forms, not phone calls since you can track them as Goals in google analytics)

1. Set up a goal for a web form conversion in google analytics.
2. Click "Custom reports" in the left hand side.
3. Create a new report called "Hour of day Conversion rate"
4. For the top part, drag the blue box called "goal conversion rate for Goal X (Goal X being the same # goal you set up for the form conversion) from the metrics section to the blue area on the right.
5. In the "dimensions" section on the left open "Visitors" and drag "Hour of the day" to the right for dimensions.
Save the report.

Let that sucker run for a few weeks (depending of traffic volume) and then you can have good data on your conversion rate by time of day. Adjust bids accordingly.

Man, i'm just giving you oodles of goodies for this plumber guy as of late....

If he is a 24 hr plumber, then of course I would keep it running at all times. How many times will his ad seriously show during those hours that it would hurt anything? The only thing that could go wrong is that he loses business because his ad isn't showing when someone needs a plumber at 3am.
