DDOS attack

you can't really do much without sacrificing traffic. check and make sure it really is a distributed attack. if its just coming from a couple ip's, block them and you're good to go.

Have a tracking image drop(host the image on a different server). If it's not a search engine bot and doesn't download that image on the first page load, temp ban em till the attack is over. Might be hard to do to start, but it will get progressively easier as time goes on.

Not 100% reliable(if your server can't even send the part where the image is included) but better than nothing or shutting down I suppose.

Host was no help. I finally found some shit online and threw some shit to handle it on the server even though my bandwith goes bye bye. Its over now shhessh

How often are you getting DDOSed? There are a number of hosts specializing in DDOS mitigation, effectively stopping the DDOS before it hits your server or screws up their network. I've heard good things about DDoS Protection | DDoS Attack | DDoS Mitigation | Denial of Service Attacks (pretty well known company in the "budget" DDOS mitigation field), and I know that Zubr Communications | Services can definitely handle DDOSes almost effortlessly.

I used to work in the hosting industry (reselling hosting & dedicated servers), and I saw my fair share of DDOS attacks. Most were one-time things, but anyone who was constantly attacked was urged to move to a host that specialized in DDOS mitigation, as most hosts aren't adequately equipped to prevent the negative effects.

No clue about any shared hosts that specialize in DDOS mitigation, but I believe that ZubrCom has a product that can handle that.

none of my sites but one! and this is the 3rd time in like 6 months.
