Design & UI agency recommendations?

Looking for recommendations for web design & user interface agencies.

Will consider an individual with a very strong portfolio.

Something like Cuban Council: Propaganda on the Agenda but who doesn't charge $100k minimum. ;)

EDIT: Here's an example of the style and standard of design I require: Online Trading and Online Investing | Scottrade | Stocks, IRAs and More

Agencies like cuban council charge $100k minimum? are you sure?
even for simple portfolios like Nebula ?
That would be ridiculous..

Wow, Cuban Council does some sweet work.
If I ever have 100 K to drop on web design I'm going to those fuckers, seriously

Really? I hate it - it's far too busy and pleased with itself. It just says "ooh look, we hired an expensive design agency" to me, and gets in the way of the user experience. But then I think we should get rid of the fancy cabinets in our kitchen and replace them with stainless steel because they're a pain to clean.

Goes to show how subjective design is.

Personally, the only situation I would hire them in is if I was spending someone else's money, and had to impress a board with the end product. It's the sort of shit the chairman's wife would love. I very much doubt they convert 5 times as a well as a 20k designer.

I see what you're saying.
If we're talking an e-commerce site or squeeze page of some sort that is heavily conversion oriented then The superfluous features might detract from the goals.

A lot of people on this forum who run banner ads often learn the surprising fact that shitty ads designed in ms paint often perform better than professionally designed.

These guys seem to do a good job of expressing brand personality. I'd use them if I needed somethign shiny for a primarily offline business.

Holler at these guys: I've just had a great experience with them doing a project for me. Very reasonably prices (low 4 figures for mine)

Custom PSDS

They've had sales threads here and what not. Catch Michael on Skype and you'll be good to go!

You can tell they're oozing with creativity just by checking out their name, too!

[ I jest, but they could have done a bit better with the brand... ]

Depends on the money that runs through your site, if you're dealing with $millions then even a 1.1x increase is worth it.

Of course, you've spotted the appalling flaw in my maths there.

What can I say? I was too blinded by my indiscriminate hatred of hipsters to get it right.

EDIT - oh, I see they designed the Facebook logo. Ok, I'll STFU now. That was worth $100k.

Thanks for the Sortfolio link, that's what I wanted.

Budget is sub $10k and need someone who works fast.

Posts link to $100k++ agency? Budget is <$10k with low turnaround time?

Admit it, you're the guy who posts jobs for Groupon Clones on freelance websites with a sub-$200 budget, aren't you? :tongue2:

Guy is right in my backyard ( or at least he was last time we talked ). We had a nice little chat about you Barry

One thing actually OP, have you tried a DP contest? I know what you're thinking, but once you get into the >$500 level, you start getting some really good designs. $1000 and they'll really come out of the woodwork, and start asking for letters of credit from your bank :D
