Thought I would try in the correct section before posting in sts.

Pros and cons on where to mange DNS. For this scenario lets eliminate a third party and only consider the domain registrar or the website host.
Setting up hosting on multiple domains per week this has been my reasoning:

Comparison of DNS management at registrar to hosting company:

1. Point DNS in domain registrar and you’re done. That’s it. Seriously stop right now your hosted.
2. No “A” record / ip # to get from host to enter into registrar.
3. No “MX” records to get from host and enter into registrar.
4. No going to registrar to update every time you want to add a subdomain.
5. Reduced potential for errors. Items 2, 3 & 4 are eliminated.
6. More secure for client. Vendor does not need ongoing critical access to domain registrar account.
7. Website / email same performance.

Additional info, caveats, questions:

  • This is on a low volume client site.
  • The above method has never presented an issue.
  • Shared server Hostgator.
  • Domain registrar GoDaddy.

So what are the pros and cons of DNS management between registrar and host? I could be missing a good reason to control the DNS at the registrar level. How do you do it?

Thanks!

Please disregard the following. It's just to save time so I can copy / pasta for potential short bus replies.

  • Dear stupid cunt. It was clearly stated that it was a client website.
  • No shit GoDaddy isn't the best registrar.
  • It's not my site. Hosting and such was determined before me.
  • Dammit man the site doesn't require VPS / Dedi.
