Just a quickie... do affiliates still have problems wit late payment from aff networks, in-house aff programs? Maybe you did not get paid at all? I know there are some that still do have issues re late payment but would be interesting to see on what scale this is.

Do you think things have improved over the years or same old?

yup

marginally better than it used to be but you still need to keep track of what's owed and nag some places to pay

i still get stiffed probably 4-5 times a year

Of course affiliate are still getting paid later than the payment terms posted on the program or networks site. That is just the way the game works. Being a network owner, I strive to get payments made before the end of the following month, however, it becomes very difficult when your advertisers aren't paying you on time either. It's just like one giant circle that goes around and around until someone gets screwed!

I'm currently still waiting for four "net30" payments from December. They're only a few days late but net30 is so slow anyway it's always infuriating when the payments aren't sent on time.

While every network might experience a hiccup where payments get out a day or two late, reputable, trustworthy networks always pay on time. If you are not getting paid by a network, you have to drop them. It's a sign of a bigger problem and continuing to run with them will leave you in a situation where you could wind up losing more in the long run.

You should always do your homework before starting to send traffic to a new network. You are, after all, trusting them with your traffic (i.e. money). Networks have to float a lot of money, and this takes careful planning to pull off properly. It's really easy to screw it up - and if the network screws it up, guess who pays? The affiliate. So don't just jump to a network because they're promising you an unrealisticly high payout, or will let you bend the rules a little, or have a shiny new toaster to give you. Look into it first. You'll be glad you did in the long run.
