Do you care about Christmas?

I do still like christmas but am finding more it more difficult to do so every year.

One big reason is because when you're an adult with $$$ nothing anyone buys you is going to really make you happy. You can buy what makes you happy any day of the year. So Christmas ends up being a fake smile marathon.

This here... but not entirely. Making a custom html xmas card for mom to send out took no money/little time but was more rewarding then the gift I bought. My smile comes from seeing friends/family smile.

I guess since I have no kids I gotta find my xmas enjoyment elsewhere. On the flip side, while I was flying to the fam, the topic of xmas was easy convo to strike up with the hottie chic that was sitting next to me.

Nobody likes to be alone on the holidays... so work those dating offers and also go out yourself and get yourself some.

"So its xmas... you going to let me hit that?"

I thought you were athiest / agnostic or something.

Seems odd that someone who doesn't believe in Christ would see it as a celebration of hope and joy. Hope and joy is always what Christmas has been about, because of the birth of the Lord Jesus.

I'm not bashing you Lauren, just genuinely fascinated by the contradiction.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

christmas hasn't been about religion for a long time.

Merry Christmas WF. I don't celebrate Christmas but I definitely see what you are saying being all day in the mall yesterday.

Christmas is ALL about religion for many that are Christians.

Giving of yourself (feeding the homeless, helping a poor family with gifts etc.)will help you find the real meaning of Christmas. Even a "wana be athiest" can still find joy in Christmas without having to attend mass.

It seems to me that many on this board are too worried about being ballers to really give back. You don't have to be religeous, for charity to enrich your life.

Christmas has always been a sham. Like mentioned earlier, it was a pagan holiday that was renamed but kept the date. Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25th, not even close. All the symbols, etc of Christmas (the tree, santa, presents, etc) come from the pagan holiday that had absolutely nothing to do with Christianity or Jesus.

So people who get all up in arms about the "true meaning of Christmas" are missing the fact that the true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with that they think.

I also have a problem with the people who think religion is a scam but celebrate Christmas anyway. Way to be hypocrites.

Christmas is an annoyance very often to people like me because of the marketing. I don't mean the shopping per se; I mean the forced cheer that we don't really feel, and the warm fuzzy times with family that many people don't have. If we're alone at Christmas time we feel like failures because we haven't sufficiently filled our lives with people to buy presents for. It's the holly-jolly, be merry it's Christmas sentiments that piss me off. Sort of like the way many churchgoers feel pressured to not feel down when they actually do. Good news, SMILE! Jesus loves you! blah-blah-blah which actually invalidates genuine negative emotions in favor of a one-smile fits all belief system.

Too much hype and expectation turn 12/25 into a day of regret and remorse for too many. My father was always very depressed around Christmas time because the hype never equaled reality, and he spent the day reflecting on it. He was actually Jewish, but bought into Christmas hype enough to be depressed by it. Millions of us are suckered into this crap, when we should be objective enough to view the shrewd, twinkly marketing for what is.

I don't think anything was actually renamed, but rather the "Christ Mass" was a new holiday that had to compete with the old. The various pagan traditions got absorbed in over the years. The modern Santa is at least partially inspired by Saint Nicholas.

I gave more to charity this year than you made. Christmas has nothing to do with religion, and almost my entire family is catholic.

LOL at everyone hating on Christmas. It's a day to get together with family and eat a delicious meal and pie. I'm not seeing what's so bad about it.

Feel bad for you bros, having nothing better to do on Christmas but come on WF and just bitch about how you hate it.

Call it whatever you want. It was initially about the Winter Solstice and the celebration of Yule. Before there was any such thing as the christian religion. This was less relgious and more of a ritual/tradition. Basicaly it was during a period of time where people were mourning the loss of the sunlight (for food and heat and life). The Solstice was when people celebrated the return of the daylight. It represented hope for the future and a renewal of life. To me that's pretty joyful. I may not be religious but I am still human and still enjoy a celebration.

Christmas is the one time of year I see all of my family and we get to catch up on things.

Whether you like the church aspect or not Christmas, or in other words the end of the year, is a great time to unwind and think of the upcoming year and plot what you're going to do or atleast what you hope to do.

There's no reason to hate on a holiday, I don't enjoy valentines day because I waste money on girls I know I won't be with a few months after but I don't bitch about it on a public forum.

I love the lights, the music, and the atmosphere while shopping. Everyone seems to be a little bit happier - and that's what it's all about for me. Enjoying a week or two without thinking about affiliate marketing drama.

If Christmas really bugs you that much just work all through it.

Get bitter or get busy bitches.

Without touching on the religious aspects and personal beliefs, I'll admit I love Christmas. It's having kids that makes it special for me. I get to spend more time with them thanks to the Christmas break. The weather turns cold for a little while here in Houston (sometimes). There are holiday shows my kids are in and they are adorable, of course.

I enjoy taking the kids out to buy presents for everyone else. We spend a lot of time focusing on how much fun it is to treat other people to a special surprise and picking out things they would really enjoy based on how well we knew them. We talk a lot about helping others who don't have as much as we do and wrap presents for various charities, etc... I even like Christmas music and baking. In fact, while y'all bitch about one of my favorite holidays, I'll crank up the Christmas carols, dig into the tree-shaped brownies and homemade peanut butter candies and watch my kids play with their new toys for one last day. :)

Christmas is what you make it. If you hate it, don't be a part of it. For those that do - enjoy the parts that you like and skip the parts you don't. You'll not find me at Wal-mart at 5 am or any of that nonsense, but that's just not the part I buy into and teach my kiddos about.
