Most of you spend a lot of time online. According to researchers, there's a good chance you suffer from "popcorn brain."

Does life online give you 'popcorn brain'? - CNN.com

Here's the gist from the CNN piece:

Constant checking of email, texts, Facebook, Twitter - along with Wickedfire and your stats/rankings - may be scrambling your brain. You're used to the constant gratification that comes with multitasking. The problem is, you might be losing your ability to relate to folks on a face-to-face basis, including your family.

Frankly, I don't relate. I don't do Facebook or Twitter. I've never sent a text in my life. My phone doesn't even have a camera. By your standards, I'm probably a Luddite.

But the CNN piece is a fun read.

After reading the article, I feel safe to say I do not have popcorn brain. I can still socialize with people in the real world, and have no problem spending a quiet day reading and working outside.

I don't have a smart phone and don't plan to get one anytime soon. My phone is for making phone calls and receiving text messages. And most of the time when I receive a text I disregard the contents and just call the person.

i feel the same way.. i have an iphone but about the only thing I do is make calls on it and sometimes use the map features on it.

i dont have FB or twitter or even a blog.

however, I am always fucking f5'ing my stats

Personally I'm too busy for all that shit, as I would think most of the guyz here at WF are- I actually have to schedule my FB and Twitter shit just so I do it once in a while to communicate with the peeps I need to reach out to on those mediums.

I check WF, et al. once or twice a day only if no other shit is on my desk, or if I need to research something. Or, of course, if I'm just totally bored out of my skull, which is pretty rare these days.

I think there's prolly a good fucking chance Orville Redenbacher would be proud of WaFo though... ;)

...have no problem spending a quiet day reading and working outside.

That sounds like a pretty good way to spend the day (sans the working part). ;)

I relate. When my last phone crapped out, I had to ask the guy at Sprint for a phone without a camera. It took him awhile to find one.

As for texting, the novelty has been awol for years. But I remember when it first started gaining steam for the older crowd. Friends would text me, and then call when I didn't respond. "Dude, didn't you get my text?" Me: "Yeah, but I'm not twelve, and I don't have a vagina. Summattawithyou?"

I've sat at Starbucks, and watched young people sit next to each other for thirty minutes, not saying a word... just texting.

I've seen folks at restaurants interrupt good conversation to answer their phones, completely shutting out the person they're with.

And Facebook... lol I used to poke fun at folks for the time they were spending navel-gazing over there. It has uses, but not for most of my friends and family.

I believe I used to, but I cut my time checking facebook/twitter/forums/etc to a minimum so I could focus better.

Yup. It's amazing what we can do when we focus. I'm a die-hard single-tasker. It's way more productive (for me). :)

I actually enjoy landscaping, it's nice to see hard work pay off. Since I was little I always lived in the house with the best looking landscaping and it's just something that has grown on me.

+rep for the related humor break.
