Do You Own The Domain To Your Name?

I've owned "myname.com" for years now although I don't do anything with it and now I'm considering giving it up. I think I keep it more to prevent negative SEO "just in case" but I really hate paying for the damn thing.

Any others who own their own name, and if so, what is up on the site?

paying about 10 bucks a year is pushing it for you? i just keep mine in my registrar along with all the other .tld's for my name. they're empty though.

i highly recommend you keep them just in case for reputation management reasons

I own my name but have not done anything with it either. I was thinking if I ever need to find a job I will put up a resume type site.

I bought myname.com in 1997, then let it lapse accidentally a few years later. It became a link farm and stayed that way for years until I was finally able to snipe it back two years ago within seconds of it being released.

I have a single page linking to my public Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, Quora, and GetGlue profiles. It's basically a placeholder.

then you would really hate being me if you hate paying $10/year for a domain lol.

I have accumulated 80 domains in NameCheap account and keep renewing them year after year. about only 20 of these domains have something on them. Its a bad problem but I can never let them drop. one day each one of them will be worth something tho.

Yes I have myname.com. I used it for learning SEO and got it to number 1 for a long-tail which used to impress my clients, back then ... Now it's just has an empty WP instal.

I own myname.com, wifesname.com and both kidsnames.com

They may want them one day.. for the sake of $40 a year.. it's nothing..

No, and I make an effort to keep my name and details off the Internet as much as possible. It weirds me out that people can just find my name, and then start following the bread crumbs to what I'm doing online. Not that I'm doing anything illegal or unethical, but I like to keep my work private. There's also no shortage of snakes that would just love to find out every single thing I'm doing online.

As someone that shares his name with both a very successful rapper, and the 2nd founder of the KKK, no, I don't own my name.com unfortunately. On the positive side, that does mean anyone wanting to negative SEO me would have a fairly difficult job.

I do own my name.com and used it as an eResume for a couple years. Haven't updated it since 2007 though lol

It's really nice and useful when you're looking for work though. Instead of sending stupid DOC or PDF documents by email, you just give them the link to your .com site. It looks much more professional too, I was getting tons of calls when I first had it up.

1000+ posts and you are still too much of a peasant phaggot to afford $10/year?

GTFO seriously.

Why don't you just pick up two pennies off the ground each day to pay for it? Seriously.. a homeless person can afford a domain name. As a matter of fact, I think the guy outside my house owns his name. He says he wants to prevent negative SEO.

I can afford it dickhead. But the fact is, if someone wants to negative SEO you, they can simply grab the .net or .org and use that instead.

Funny you bring this up.

My mother was illiterate. I don't blame her, I blame her parents because instead of schooling her they made her work on the farm. Now, if you keep reading you'll see what this thread has to do with my name and the domain I yet to have.

Ok, i was born to a mother who was illiterate, right? Well that night before i was born she had a 'dream', she says it was god. I don't believe in fairy tales. She says god, i say dream.

Ok, in this dream she was told to name her child this special name because this name will change the world.....

The dream told her to name me Google, but she spelled it Gugoal.

Can you imagine if my birth certificate said Google, fuck.

I got the last laugh. She's in a fucking rest home. Fuck her.

I own myname.com - some asshat with my name in the UK owned it, I emailed him and offered 1k for it back in the late 90's, he said no way he'd ever let it go. I thought it was hopeless at that point, but I wrote a script to check every day via whois and email me if it ever became available. I forgot about that script, and like 6 years later I get a email out of the blue..

It's available.

Snapped that bastard up and haven't let it go since.

Don't use it, but it's important to me that I own it in case I ever want to.

And to piss off a certain Nathan Jacobs from the UK.

My name is to complicated, even if i'll become famous, nobody will be able to remember

Do you get a discount for domain renewals? If not do you know what it takes? I have 30 domains with them and I started a chat with them asking for a coupon code which doesn't expire that I can use for domain renewals and new registrations and they just gave me the crappy coupon code of the month.

I did for several years, and then accidentally let it lapse/didn't care because I wasn't doing anything with it. Got bought up by a domain company who wants $500 to let me have it back.

I haven't paid based on principle. There's maybe 3 people on the planet with my name and it's useless to him, it's parked right now. I'll hopefully get it back later this year.
