If you're a dog owner, do you take your mutt into stores?

If you're not a dog owner, do you mind when others take their mutts into the stores you visit?

I'm not talking about service dogs or even therapy dogs. Nor am I talking about the outside sections of stores, cafes and restaurants.

So, what's your opinion?
 


I wish. Would love to take my guys out & about. Just hang out in town together, have some lunch, whatever.

But no, there's too many street dogs around, so it just doesn't work. It's too much of a pain in the ass, hence why I only rent houses with large yards. Not sure what the street dogs are thinking by barking at my guys, as my guys would rip them apart if given the chance. My guys are extremely friendly, but they're not going to back down from an aggressor either. And I'm only 65kg, so don't need 60kg of pissed off dog pulling me around the streets trying to kill some street dog.
 
People bring their dogs into our store all of the time, then again, I do live on a farm.. Just don't be an asshole pet owner and let it shit everywhere and not clean it up.
 
yes. and when hes done pissing all over the groceries i lash out at everyone who says its inappropriate
 
Yes, I have a sense of where and where not to bring my dog with me..

Here's the deal though:

Some dogs will just go crazy around people, food, kids, noises, whatever..

They bark, bolt around, whine, jump up on people, bite..

(Bad pet parenting, no training, working/high-energy/aggressive/protective dog breed.)

Ruins it for everyone.

I can bring my dog in restaurants, stores, anywhere, and he'll just lay down or walk by my side till I'm done.

He's dog friendly, kid friendly, people friendly....

Doesn't panic, bark, bite, whine, jump or any of that nonsense.

Pretty much, he's awesome. :D
 
I love cats and dogs, so I don't really care, especially when they are owned by hot chicks, gives me something to talk about and grab their numbers, but I hardly see any at food places.
 
Love dogs, but restaurants and grocery stores are off limits.

I love dogs and cats, i want to bring them anywhere. But it depends on the behavior of your pets especially those aggressive dogs. When your pets is aggressive, it's better to let them stay on your home :)
 
I don't take my dogs into stores unless they either are pet stores or state that they welcome dogs.

If someone was really allergic to dogs and it didn't state that it was a dog free store I would feel bad if they got sick.
 
This latest trend of people taking their dogs into stores, restaurants, etc. is one of my biggest pet peeves. I don't own a dog, but I used to have lots of them growing up as a kid, and like dogs, but grocery stores, home depot, etc is not cool. Eventually shit's gonna hit the fan when someone's dog decides to bite some kid, or someone with allergies has an allergy attack.

I understand that you can't leave the dog in the car, it's a danger for the dog, but if you have a dog, just leave it home while you run out to the store.
 
was eating at a restaurant the other day and there was this lady with a little rat dog in her purse at the table next to us

she kept slipping it food off of her plate and it was fucking disgusting, with the dog making chewing noises and begging

definitely not what i want to see/hear when i'm dining out

There is one simple reason for this from a business perspective, service dogs.

20 years ago a "service dog" meant a seeing eye dog for a blind person, everyone was cool with the fact that these are very well trained dogs that must always be with this obviously physically handicapped person.

Now "service dog" is a very nebulous thing for a business to deal with. The last thing they want is negative PR of telling a disabled person they cannot bring in a service dog. However now you can order a vest and plastic card for any dog and tell people it's a service dog. It's hard to know who is full of BS and who might have a very real condition.

It was never a government program it just seemed to work for many years as people had enough shame and respect for actual handicap people not to try to claim there dog is a service dog because "I have anxiety without them" just to get special treatment. However in this current time people have figured out they can get away with it and feel 100% entitled to do so.

This is only going to grow and really screw over the few people that actually need a well trained service dog for reasons other then being blind.
 
Anxiety? Seriously? That's ridiculous. A small dog in a purse is not a service dog. Nor is the golden lab you're pushing around in your grocery cart. Common fucking sense.

I don't mind dogs at restaurants with an outdoor patio if they are well behaved, but they do not belong inside, nor inside most retail establishments. The only store I've ever taken my own dog into was a pet supermart because they don't mind. I let her pick out her own toys which is kind of fun.

Fuck, as well trained as she is, if I took her into a grocery store her head might explode.
 
years ago, I'm at Vegas casino, go to pull out a chair at a blackjack table next to a 50-year old woman chainsmoking and playing cards. I look down, there is a lap dog curled up sleeping on the chair. no vest or anything, the woman appears to be as healthy as you could expect a 50 yr chainsmoker pounding gin&tonics at a casino to be. I think this is odd, but whatever, I slide over to the only other open chair nearby and sit down. 2 minutes later, someone else tries to sit there, is surprised by the dog which yaps. The owner then says "careful, he's working"..... So, yea, apparently the dog was her therapy dog, and his "work" consisted of sleeping in casino chairs and breathing 2nd hand smoke while his owner gambled..

I like dogs, grew up around dogs, but bringing your dog into any business around shoppers and other people that maybe don't like and/or are allergic to dogs is just ignorant behavior. If a business has an "open dog" policiy (e.g. Home Depots around here do) fine, but otherwise, leave them at home, not all of society thinks your dog is as cool as you do.

(unless your dog can count cards at the casino, in which case, carry on, that is my kind of "service dog")
 
I like dogs. Dogs are awesome. There is no hell for dogs, only heavens after death.

But going to a shop with a dog? without a muzzle? without respect to possible allergic people around you? That's just inappropriate.

My close friend has a 10-years-old shar pei male, Lucky. He was not in a store, ever, both for dog's sake and for safety and well-being of other people. That's the attitude I like.
