Title pretty much says it all. I want to leave my iPhone for the new 9700 Bold from BB. I was just wondering if any wf members have it? Would it be a good idea? I'm getting pretty annoyed with my iPhone.

Bold is better than the Tour. You can get one locked in to AT&T for only 350, then unlock it for another 10-20 bucks.

Problem is 3G might not work across other networks. Def. go with the 9700 if you can though.

BlackBerry has been able to update WordPress for a few years now. :)

Oh yeah... Did I mention what I mention in EVERY "What phone..." thread?

Encryption.
Battery Life.
Ease of Use.
Function.

FTW.

The 9700 is a badass phone, but fuck, I'd even settle for a Curve 9350 if it's all I could get... Still much better than most other phones out there...

Just never get a Blackberry that doesn't have a keyboard...

Being able to travel the world using my phone and switching SIM cards, FTW. Therefore Bold, FTW.

The reason they call it the Tour is because it has CDMA to support the unquestionably best provider in the US (Verizon) AND you can put a GSM sim card in if you want when you go elsewhere.

And no, the bold isn't better, it's just different.

Differences:

Bold has optical trackpad, tour has trackball. Both are good, I like the trackpad better, admittedly.
Bold has wifi, tour has CDMA.
They're about the same size and the bold has a marginally longer battery life.

But at the end of the day, being forced to use AT+T or Tmobile in the US instead of verizon is a complete dealbreaker for anyone who cares about service.

I ended up getting the bold. Got rid of the iPhone and I'm quite happy. Thus far I've had no issues with ATT and service here in Chicago but who's to say I won't in the future. I've yet to find something I dislike about the phone.

I've had an unlocked iphone with T-mobile for a while and was getting sick of the phone because it was so buggy so I decided to switch over to the Bold 9700 and I've noticed that even though it's 3G it's still slower than my iphone was on 2G. Also I like the interface of the iPhone better so I'm still getting used to the Blackberry. I'll probably switch back to a newer unlocked iPhone eventually.

I actually did not know that about the Tour. +rep.

The whole ATT thing... all depends where you live. Where I live, ATT is 18x better than any other service in addition, my Blackberry is unlocked (quick phone call to ATT) and I am not strapped to a contract and am in Spain half the year.

Plus- The bold is faster than the Tour, and isn't as plastic feeling.

Trackball is alright until it breaks (been through 3, all because of that reason.)

I got a nexus one. It's an amazing phone for what I need but Tmobile's network isn't exactly something to brag about

All valid points other than the at+t one. There is nowhere in america that at+t has better service than verizon. Service is really the most important point.

Nicky do you have the tethering plan with your tour?

I would have opted to switching to verizon had it not been for the 1 extra year I have with AT&T.
