Does anyone here knit?

Casting on instructions are always way too complicated. Just tie the first one like a knot (not too tight so that you can get the other needle in) and then for the next one loop the yarn, twist it over towards yourself and put it onto the needle. Pull the yarn firm to pick up the slack and repeat until you have all the stitches you need. Ultra-easy project that looks amazing: cast on 31 stitches. Knit one row as usual, then for the next one knit the first stitch, drop the next two, knit the next one, drop the next two and so on until you reach the last stitch (knit as normal). Stretch the knitting sideways to remove any slack, then for the next row knit as usual but loop the yarn 3 times for each stitch EXCEPT the last stitch, which you knit with just one loop. Flip over and repeat the stitch one drop two thing again, and so on. Always end with a normal stitch as this will keep the thing together. It'll take about 2 hours to make a scarf that'll make people go all 'omg that's awesome, can you teach me? No wait, can you make me one?'

Thanks kofiannan. I just figured out how to cast on, (actually, much to my chagrin, my husband had to help me, apparently his grandma taught him how to knit as a kid too!) so I'm not actually to the knitting part yet ( I was thinking I would take that on today). But once I've figured it out I will come back to this post and attempt what you said. Scarfs are about the only knitted thing I can stand (But I live in Texas, so not very practical!!) but like I said it's more about the activity than the result for me.

In that case you could use something like chenille yarn (cotton rather than wool or acrylic) and increase it to 28 stitches so that it turns out like a posh shawl.
Ok *smoothes out gingham dress* I'm gonna go crank out some websites now...
:D

I do! Get up here and I will teach you whatever you need to know! :) You can make sweet things for that new baby. Or cloth diaper covers! (taking nuts to a whole new level, I know) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/ljalter/IMG_6532_5.jpg

I have total knitting ADD - I have like 5 projects half done at all times. LOL If only I had more than 5 minutes of free time a month... It's very therapeutic. I can totally zone out yet keep my hands busy. Plus, at the end of it all, you have something useful.

You know, I wondered if you knitted, but then I thought nahhh it's not possible, because she already does everything else! I should have known. :D

My mum showed me how to knit when I was younger, but it felt a tad homosexual so I stopped.

You felt Tad, the homosexual, and then stopped? Thank you for sharing! :)

I can knit, I think a neighbor taught me when I was young, but I can't teach it. I tried to teach my girls and they still can't knit.

I worked at a real boring group home and didn't have much to do and no cable, so that year I crocheted all 5 kids and my step-dad an afghan.
