I'm scouring the Internet for news that doesn't carry a 3 letter acronym, or al jazeer, and that's all I'm being served.

I jumped on a canadian vps and can only get MSM news. I've found a few twitter accounts, but even those seem phony to me.

I'd really like to know how those people are doing, and I simply don't believe the rubbish "victory cries" coming out of the shithole news sites.

Anyone with real local sources would be appreciated.

This is basically the USA overthrowing Libya. Check out the Human Development Index, and you will see that Libya is actually the most developed nation in Africa. It's equal with Mexico, Chile and Argentina.

From a commenter on the Huffington Post:

"“Libya was actually a fairly progressive state under Gaddafi. It was secular and women had the right to vote, own property, divorce, hold office and so on. Now juxtapose this with Saudi Arabia, staunch US allies. It is one of the most restrictive states in the world. There are no equal rights. There is no equality."

Shits fucked up.

Libya had somewhat of a unique economy. It was one of the only socialist countries that worked. This was because Gaddafi owned oil and used the oil to fund everyone. He gave away money for free, paid for cars, houses ect.. Instaid of taking money from his people he gave it to them.

He led a revolution which is what put him into power himself. He has a guide book that he published about this thoughts and theories that he uses. It's call the "green book" if you want to look it up.

The current rebels were placed in leadership by the french president(he openely admitted that). He continues to arm them and bomb the other side to help there. There is actually only about 2,000 armed "rebels", they are up against over 1million armed people in Tropoli.

He was not killing innocents for the most part, he killing armed "rebels" who were attacking his army and police. Murdering them without just cause.

The reason you can't find real news or real twitter accounts is because most people in Libya do not have internet.

Ive been following this since the start pretty heavily, I would say I have around 1,000 hours of re-search on the topic. Feel free to ask away.

Bigwill - if this socialist society works - how come the people don't have internet? I'll admit I'm ignorant on the situation, but it doesn't sound like the people are really wealthy or prosperous if that's the case.

They do have internet but most choose to not use it. However once the rebels started attacking it was turned off to stop their communication. That makes it pretty obvious that most or all the twitter updates are fake (google it to check references).

People are not really wealthy there. That is because of how his system work's. I am not 100% familiar with how their financial system works, I do know a few things though. Gaddafi felt that people working for government money were enslaved. Remember that he is a socialist and in a socialist world, nobody is wealthy.

He didn't allow people to buy houses and rent them out. Therefore, at the time of marriage, he paid $50,000 for you to buy a house. Also, when you got of legal age to drive you got free money to buy a car. There are many other strange perks his economy had like no income tax. He would anyone who want to go, to school in the USA(Obama has seized all his students money - google it).

You may want to check out his "green book" to get a little more insight

Gadaffi and his cronies were extremely wealthy. They controlled the wealth of the country, stealing from the nation for their own benefit.

He ran his country with an iron fist, as though it were his own property. People who did not bow to him were brutally oppressed. If you belonged to the wrong tribe, it was a cruel existence.

If he knew how to run a decent country, there would be an easy transition to new rulers, and the aspirations of the people would be respected. Instead he was a brutal despot, doling our favors to those who kissed his feet.

Freedom and justice for the people of Libya!

Just one of Daffy's terrible limits on personal freedom.

Therefore, at the time of marriage, he paid $50,000 for you to buy a house. Also, when you got of legal age to drive you got free money to buy a car.

What a great way to buy adulation and impose control on those who are oppressed.

Unless you were in the privileged class Libya was a disaster. Read about Gadaffi's human rights violations;

No wonder the rebels wanted him out, and gained so much support. If he allowed them to vote, it would have been easier. Unfortunately he was too selfish and greedy to consider the needs of his people.

Freedom is on the march! Libya, Syria, Iran, Palestine, and more. Let the people choose their future.

Read those human rights violations again and think of the US. The US does all that shit + more.

You don't see the wellfare/entitlement system in the US as a way to control people?

I can't really tell if you are joking / trolling or not

We're going to miss Daffy sorely for the stability he provided in that hellhole. Cue tribal war/clan war/civil war/tens of millions of violent refugees 200 miles from Europe in 3...2...1

Is this thread about your hate of the USA, or the Gadaffi you love?

Oppression can only live in silence. Speak up and you'll be heard.

I don't know much about the Libya situation but I really don't get this. why would a large portion of the population have internet but just choose not to use it? They don't like porn over there or something?

<popcorn.jpg>

I have no fucking idea if K-dawg has been oppressing people in Libya that were not in the favored class or not, but his views on socialism are so far-fetched and Opposing capitalism I can't help but hate him... No matter how advanced his downtown area had become... No matter how posh his priviliaged class seemed to live: They WERE NOT FREE.

Imagine living there, in that system. If you wanted to own a Hummer or your own plane, I kinda doubt that you'd be allowed to buy one.

-For that matter, what if you wanted to open up the countries' largest car dealership!

It's so non-free that it's just another kind of prison, even for the 'richest' ppl there.

I do wish I'd gotten to visit before the shit hit the fan tho...

Quote from November 2010, before the current revolution;

In a move that can only make an American grateful for freedom of the press, ten Libyan journalists have been arrested by security forces for nothing more than criticizing the Libyan government. The six male, and four female journalists, all work for a news agency controlled by the son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

Ten Libyan journalists arrested for criticizing... | Gather

Imagine you lived there, and were lucky enough to have access to the internet. You might watch some porn? You might post on a forum? You might go to jail !

This is how Gadaffi's socialism worked, it was idyllic if you were one of the stinking-rich elite.

lol half of those pictures are from other countries. They even show a bunch of people from the US(look at the street signs..).

You misunderstand the video, who made it, and why..

There is no way to deny the dismal cruelty that Gadaffi's socialism imposed on his oppressed people.

Oppression in Libya: A Peek at the Inner Workings of Gadhafi's Dictatorship - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International

In these days of chaos and uncertainty in Libya, it is slowly becoming clear just how the despot's apparatus of oppression worked. Journalists have now managed to find their way into the insular country.
