Been lurking here for awhile. Been making money from Adsense/VCM/Adbrite for 2 years now and want to start earning like the big boys.

Decided my first attempt at affiliate marketing should be something cheap, so I chose a $500 Best Buy zip lead paying out $1.50.

Set up my YSM account and built a landing page:
John McCain Poll

Bid on a bunch of John McCain keywords at .10 each, but for some reason couldn't get this bi@tch to make me money. I ended up losing some money over the last 3 days but, not much since I set daily spending limit to $15 or so.

So does my landing page just suck? Does the offer suck? Or does just doing these stupid polls ---> zip submits is a failed method?

you're asking the wrong question and setting up wrong... not to mention the people you're targeting don't give a fuck about your fake offer.

If you want to change your results, it's time to change your approach.

IMO your best bet here is CONTREVERSY

Create an actual poll with a script of something that REQUIRES people to put in their name and email before their vote is counted (for vote fraud protection), then send an email THANKING them for their vote and offering a $500 gift card for participating in "this years most important online GOP poll"

If you REALLY want to get people buzzing, make the numbers obviously leaning towards like McCain, maybe have most of the candidates with smiles and a horrible shot of Ron Paul.

You may get stalked, but you will have traffic.

a) Does my LP suck
b) offer suck
c) or do I just suck?

d) all of the above

Yeah the answer is gonna be D, with a special emphasis on C. :D

Do you seriously consider an outlay of $15 / day on a played-out zip submit offer sufficient to bring you to a point where you might even have a chance of "earning like the big boys"? It's like saying you want to go to the moon, then you grab a plastic spoon and start trying to dig a hole in concrete.

Would you "vote" on your obviously fake and worthless poll and then enter your zip code?

Ok let me clarify that...we are assuming that you in that case are working with an IQ somewhat above current room temperature - which is just for hypothetical purposes - because the only thing lower than your IQ is your net income over the past 2 years.

I realized this after I created this thread. Old people voting for McCain don't care about free Best Buy Gift Cards.

Considering I put up mid xx,xxx/yr while working a full-time 40+ hour/wk job, I would say it's pretty impressive. Although I'm not quite sure work your GED ass brings in or maybe you just lurk here without providing any real criticism. I'd bet the latter, given your SuPerZ uBEr ScReeN NaMe.

Its pretty weak -- the site looks about as worthless and untrustworthy as possible. Take some effort to add some real content and make the site something that people can actually trust.

Spend some time looking at other similar sites, also look at the top incentivised offers in the larger networks and see how it is done right.

Don't think you can just put up a half-ass page and make a ton of money.

There is a lot of money to be made in internet marketing, but you have to put some effort around it and think about how to do it right.

Search this forum, there is a ton of good advice and ideas to improve on your start. Consider this steps 1 and 2 (at least you got something going) and work on steps 3-10 before you start thinking about making a profit on sites like these.

I don't know. Ron Paul supporters are LEAST likely to fall for a zip submit. I would go after Hilary voters, they seem the most naive.

So many people make the mistake on this type of promo. For instance, 95% of people will garget McCain related keywords. Think for a second, what type of people fall for this type of stuff? Stupid people. Do you think stupid people search for politics-related words? No! You need to target the stupid people demographic keywords. Now I'm not going to give away the specific keywords that are effective as it took me awhile to find these and I might also offend, but this should give you a start.

Just to throw this in quick, but i made 100 thousand dollars last year on people voting on my fake and worthless polls and entering their zip code

uhhh yeah, dont bother listening to that guy, i made so much money with this idea its ridiculous, although that was when i figured out that i could get 1 cent clicks on any keyword for a while.

I was going to chime in, but you've already been given some great advice here. I'll just reinforce what I think the most valuable info is...
  • Target stupid people.
  • Experiment with getting an email for yourself first. If they'll give you their email, they'll probably give it out to the offers you spam them with as well.
  • Talk to your AM about which email submits are converting well recently. Some of them suck, some of them rock. Try different offers.
  • Think of something besides politics. The average American knows more about what Britney ate for dinner last night than about any political issues. Exploit their stupidity. It's the American way.
  • I think your landing page is alright looking if it where targeting idiots. I think your whole approach sucks (no offense). You're on the right track just by trying stuff, keep it up.

Semi-thread hijack:

Are poll sites decently profitable in your guys' opinions? Or is it a niche that is pretty hard to make bank off of?

Poll sites aren't a niche. The niche is whatever you're making a poll on. And yes, if you do it right, they can make money.

I will say they're pretty cheap to test, so if you're looking for a low risk/high reward scenario I'd recommend trying it out.
