Ok, this is my site. (It's the first time I've listed it). I'm seriously considering trying to make a bit of money off of it.

It's: Dad of Twins

Yeah, I'm a dad of 7 year old twin girls. It's the first time I did any keyword research and I consider that part of it a success. It gets 300 uniques a month as it is. When I launched it, it was a PR4 a month after it went live. It has since dropped to a PR3 but I think it might be from the fact I haven't touched it in almost 6 months. For finding a niche and using the right keywords (regardless if it's a good niche or a good set of keywords) I am calling it a success. I simply wanted to rank high in Google.

It ranks really high when you search for "dad twins" and a bunch of other search terms.

My question is this. Does it have any potential? What type of marketing would this site benefit the most from?

Here is my stats from Google Analytics. The % is first, term is second, position is 3rd. Then it repeats. Sorry for the crappy format.

I would suggest taking this over to digital point.

It doesnt seem like you have nearly enough traffic to really be making bank with aff marketing.

I was just wondering if it had potential to be expanded into making some traffic. I hate that fuckin' DP site. I like my cool new home here at WF.

Sorry, perhaps I should have been clearer. I wouldn't mind seeing if I can pump up the traffic on it since I've basically done nothing with it since about a month after I set it up.

Thanks for the advice tho!

I think it would be more like a personal blog. To be honest, I don't know who would read a personal blog about someone else's life unless they're famous, or unless they post boobs all over the site. I'd check it out then.

I'd exploit that "octopus gestation" phrase, that sounds like a winner .... how again did you get that phrase into a site for dads of twins?

If you want to make cash, try a different niche

I don't know why the "experts" are fucking with you but it does have potential, it's going to take some work though. You already have one of the harder parts finished, you have it up and running.

In addition to the personal "here's what my kids did today" type posts, you want to start mixing in things like product reviews and recommendations (create categories for them). Give price comparisons for those products with affiliate links to places like ebay, amazon, overstock.com, etc (there's a shitload of places with baby products that also have affiliate programs), like "You can get the XYZ acme2000 stroller on Ebay for around $300, on Amazon it's $375, and at Overstock for $345", using your affiliate links for all three (or however many affiliate links you can get)

Use PHPBay to set up some categories with baby products/toys/vids/books/etc. (ebay affiliate), you can also integrate an Amazon store with baby products/books/vids/toys/etc.

Put up some deals/coupons posts (create a whole category for deals/coupons) that contain your affiliate links, i.e. "I see that XYZ has 20% off acme2000 babystrollers, this is one of the best baby strollers on the market....". Check out Goldencan for some good datafeeds with constantly updated coupons. Check sites like slickdeals (there's many more) for the latest deals/coupons, this can also help find more merchants with affiliate programs.

Get rid of that Amazon widget, you'll be lucky to make .50 cents a year with that and only put adsense or YPN ads at the bottom of pages and posts as a last resort method of making a few cents off of anyone who hasn't clicked an affiliate link. I would remove them all to gether until you get some more experience and know where/when to use them, instead concentrate on making the money through affiliate programs.

Do some searching (here, google, etc) and get up to speed on Keyword research (so you know which keywords to work into your posts/articles), SEO and building backlinks.

To bring in more traffic, start commenting on baby/family type blogs and sites (there's plenty of them).

Also, start writing some short articles that are humorous or give good baby care advice and start submitting to the article directories.

Read up on gaming Yahoo answers, if done right this can work well.

Join baby-related groups/forums i.e. Yahoo groups.

There's many more methods of driving traffic, those are just a few that are easy to implement.

Later, when you have some experience, you can also use PPC to drive much more traffic.

The baby niche is actually a pretty good niche, good luck and keep at it.

I agree with Gumby that it can be developed for baby products - ease up on the Dad and the 7 year olds stuff and get Mother of twins or baby names as a secondary keyword phrase (SEOacrocy has a db)and hit CJ and such for baby products. You already know or remember how expensive babies are. If you want something more unique ( a hardback baby memory book) hit me up on PM and I'll see if I can arrange it.

In Ohio there is a suburb of Cleveland called Twinsburg that hosts a twins festival every year that brings in 50,000 or more people every year - all twins, all ages, from all over the world. If they can make money on it you certainly can.

Great info guys. I actually started this site for my twins when I was 'just blogging'. I lost interest and left it alone for 6 months. Then I noticed it was still getting traffic. Then I thought, hey, i might be able to do something with it. It was never started as a 'money maker' and it might not ever become one, however, I'm going to try.

As for octupus gestation. I have a story in there about finding out we were having twins and refer to gestational sacks. My nickname (also another post) for when they were getting into everything (as a team) and driving me fuckin' apeshit was 'The Octopus'. 8 arms and legs. That's how it wound up in there. hahaha

Thanks again for all the good stuff guys. I'm going to get started real soon. I have a couple of other projects on the books too. I have like half a dozen domains just sitting idle and I'm adding new ones whenever something catches my eye.

Wow, what a valuable contribution to the thread.

@ OP - Your rankings aren't that remarkable, but if you can pump more content onto your site you will see a rank increase and organic traffic increase.

I believe the hard part is the niche. Right now the website is like a personal blog and (as stated above my someone else) no one really cares for personal blogs unless they are famous people or provide value and is being written by an 'expert'.

Here is a suggestion though. Consider remaking the website into an informative website on being a single father of twin girls. Even if you are not personally single; that just seems like a somewhat desperate situation to be in.

This probably says more about me as a person, but the first thing I thought of when I saw "Dad of Twins" was some pretty niche porno....

But something tells me you don't want to develop that way.

Seriously though, there's no reason why you couldn't market children's products through there.
Don't just think babies. Categories and sub categories the hell out it, and make sure you have a blog on there about raising twins of your own.

The blog will give it more credibility for a start, because you're not full of crap, like most blog are. Also, Google loves the damn things, so it'll do wonders for your SERP as well as being able to drop contextual links into your programs.

Back to the product marketing.
From what I've seen of twins, and I knew 4 sets in highschool, they usually do everything exactly the same until they're 12, and then become totaly opposites of each other as teenagers.
Use that to your advantage with the category thing for selling products.
You may even be able to run a drop shipping thing and put a script in to double up on orders by default for the under 12s, and then for the overs, just have it suggest the "opposite" product... i.e. One want's Emily The Strange garbage, so the other gets suggested some BlueGrass or Fubu

Unfortunately, I think it's closer to reality than the other responses.

Your goal is to make money?

Keep that site as a personal site and build a different site around a product or niche that can be more easily monetised.

Such as?

Nevermind, you're right.

He should stick to zip submits, creditcards, and dating offers. Nobody buys babystuff online, my bad.

rgordon is correct...no

And why not? I love people who answer questions like this without stating why. Some people above would disagree with 'no'. He just needs to change his direction a bit to make money from his site.

I second that. I use Yahoo answers pretty frequently and it does a great job of sending targeted traffic to your sites if you are willing to spend some time with it. I also see a shit load of questions posted by people looking for advice on raising their children.

I have a friend with twins. Man, that's a crazy first couple of years. You might want to focus on tips for new parents of twins, by age range, starting from day 1.

Create some posts like "Surviving the first 2 weeks" and build some credibility about being an expert on how to deal with two babies screaming, etc...

Then you can move into "The best dual stroller" type reviews without seeming too cheesy.

You might want to have some posts talking about problems twins have that are not like single kids at various ages. Then you can post ads for age appropriate products (Hanna Montana, Disney Princess, etc...).

That or it's total crap.

A wealth of knowledge guys. Thanks a ton. I'm going to start working on links and other things. Changing up the post content to be a bit more official and a little less 'fatherly' then start pimping some aff links. Cool, cool!

Thanks again,
