Though with talking about travel and shit that's a whole other animal. Required travel with 2-3K on the contract is a little ... weird. Though hey, free travel for someone looking for a vacation isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Happened to me before. Client bought a $800 piece of software, a week later calls me up, "you know, I hate talking over e-mail and the phone. how about I just fly you down here, and you can show me how to use this damn thing?". And sure enough, he did, several times. Put me up in nice hotels, took me out to nice restaraunts, strip clubs, etc.
Wish I could say it was good, but I'd by lying. Was intense, if anything. Him and his colleagues would get together with me in the morning to review the system, and they'd just shoot out suggestions, "yeah, that sounds good, do that", all the while "that" is like 6 hours of straight work. Every morning they'd generally load me up with about 35 hours of work, and expect it done the next morning, plus I have to let the client take me out to dinner, etc.
Ahhh... the old days... Stressful, but good pay.
