Domain Sold for $250k. Anyone actually make some decent $$$ selling domains?

I had a few domains I got for reg fees and sold it for xxx or high xxx, and a few in the x,xxx range that I bought for xxx , but its harder now then before unless you seriously have some good premium domains or highly brandable domains.

Uhm, I literally sold bitcoinwallets.net for $300 a couple days ago. :(

Fuckkkk. damn dude thats rough :/

Sedo is okay, they charge a big fee. It's frustrating because I need to quote people a lot higher price than I actually want. They should just email the whois.

Yeah, I've heard leaving the whois up is the way to go. I wasn't thinking about that and most of mine have whois guard up.

Maybe I should just park an email up on them and see if I get any bites..

Actually, that's probably what's going on with both sales. This is how the bitcoin promotion machine works. Here when someone buys bitcoinwallet.com for $250k. They know the price tag is going to get coverage.

It's funny you say that. I saw the dude that sold it commenting all over TC and some other sites. such hype.

Good point. I mean, I feel like one of my best skills is thinking of highly brandable names and kinda having a sense of what is probably available. Then searching and impulse buying the winners.

I own quite a bit of .coms right now, but at less than $2k a year... I just need one decent hit and I'm up. Plus, it kinda gives me an excuse to build a site in that niche :P

I sold a domain: 'Facebook.com' domain back in 2003 for $225.
Boy do I regret that one.

LOL shitt. Not sure if I'm buying this one ;) Though I've heard crazier stories over these last couple years...

He purchased BitcoinWallet.com for just $11,000 so that is around a $230,000 profit or so... not bad, lol.

You can use Namebio.com DNsalesprice.com to check reported past domain sales. DnJournal.com also reports all sales above $2k. These resources are good for comps on similar domain names you maybe interested in buying or selling.

Sedo.com, Afternic.com and DomainNameSales.com are probably your best bet for selling for the highest price in the aftermarket.

You can also submit a name to TobyClements.com daily domain newsletter.

Or you can simply hustle and reach out to businesses/people (end-users) that you think might benefit or be interested in your domain.

Sold a domain about a month ago for much more than that. Actually own a couple that were registered in the 80s that could fetch a decent price

i got my cousin register like invest.cn and about 50 .cn domains 10 years ago (because I couldn't from switzerland) we both forgot to renew and some sold for like 10k
I don't sweat it though, because all I lost was like registration fee and I've done way more stupid shit than that, u win some, u lose some

i usually buy domains too, used to snap up lots of emds for the fun of it
but sedo is kinda funny, got this girl who always sends me interesting domains for my topics
and sometimes when I find one independently I want her to negotiate she quotes me 4x the listing price (even though it's listed on sedo too) to start negotiating

when dealing with them, never take their word for it, they're just a broker, they quote him low they quote you high

I think anyone who has been active will have some major flubs on their resume. I sure do.

What are your thoughts on the new TLD domains coming out soon? Seems like it's a great opportunity to get some great sounding urls and make some money. That's if you can secure them of course.

I've begun buying some future tech domains. Managed to snap up some 'cheap oculus rift' in a couple languages. Going to post a few links and articles on it, then sell to someone once the launch gets close. You can get away with using brand names in several countries.

You can try predicting future demand, such as 'zombie repellent', which incidentally some domainer already bought.

I'm thinking about selling LogoDesign.co (just the domain) - I snagged it when .co opened up via auction. I know it's a ".co", but it's a huge kw domain. Thoughts on what I might be able to get it for?

.co can still fetch good money, obviously nowhere near a .com but still, I would imagine that you can get a decent sum for it.

Domaining was the step after game currencies. I didn't fare too well in this venture but still managed to sell consistently $XX - $XXX (Low). This was back in the day...

keywordforum.com - always a hot seller to the right buyer.

I was going to post earlier that I reckon you could have got 1-5% of the .com's worth on the bitcoin .net domain (5% is typical of most big .net sales but the plural is a killer in this case), so $2k wouldn't have been unreasonable. I'll stick to that same appraisal on the .co. I'd say $5-10k wouldn't be unreasonable. Do you get any traffic or leads through it?

LoL. Yeah, right. Did you also fail to invest in Bitcoin 7 years ago? You know you could have been a trillionaire.

I own the exact match .com name for a video game. I bought it a while ago. It was just released and has done over $1mil+ in sales already.

What would you do with something like this?

Difficult, because if you try to monetize it for that game, then they have grounds to take it from you. I'm surprised they haven't approached you to make an offer if it's truly an exact match. What kind of game is it? $1 mil in sales for any kind of major video game release is peanuts.
