Don't ignore your health, if you have the money go see a doctor if you haven't......

Do some research on reversing diabetes through a raw diet.

Someday people will learn that we don't need all these fucking pills, our food is our medicine. If we eat nutritious, living foods our bodies will take care of themselves - and we will experience a much lower chance of cancer, heart disease, etc.

Not sure how to set one up with that monitor setup you have, but it might be a key to getting more active.

if you don't want to fuck around and can muster up some serious willpower, a raw or paleo diet will fix you in about a month.

it'll be incredibly hard to stick with in the beginning, especially since you're so fond of chow-esque blogging (and the meals leading up to it)
you'll feel like shit the first week or two due to detoxification.
but it works.

proper nutrition is life changing stuff, and probably a better option than a lifetime of treatment.
'course if you expect to remain disease free, eating right is a lifetime of treatment.

you can still enjoy restaurant food after you're well, but in high moderation. and there are some killer raw/paleo recipes out there.
I eat about 80% paleo, which is essentially a highly restrictive mostly raw food diet including cooked (or uncooked organic/free range) meats and eggs.
best decision of my life, following 15 years of morbid obesity.

feel for ya. good luck man.

in most cases the shit is reversable, what ISN'T reversable is the damage already caused..

untrue. high dose B12 supplements have been shown to heal 'permanent' neuropathy, diabetic and otherwise, for more than a decade.
oz's not telling you about it cause B12 isn't a pharmaceutical treatment.

Really sorry to hear that, and I hope you are able to find something that makes it better.

Before you make drastic changes to your diet based on some internet forum advice, please ask your doctor.

I think you should def try to get going with some daily exercise, that will help your health a lot for sure. I used to be really really skinny and didnt want to go to the gym cause I thought all the in-shape people would look at me funny, but every time I go to the gym and i see someone out of shape in there I'm like "Damn, good for them, they're gonna feel awesome if they keep it up."

That sucks mate, it's not really life threatening anyway so you're lucky in that regard. So you had no symptoms at all?

I'm really lucky in terms of genetics, there has only been one case of cancer on either side of my family and that was my grandfather's brother. He smoked since he was about 15 and got lung cancer at about 75, died from it recently.

+1 Doctor / Diet / Exercise

One month of going to the gym twice (now three) times weekly has done wonders for my fat ass. I'm probably one of the biggest guys (girth-wise) there and love every painful minute of it. My trainer makes it fun. Go visit your local gym, talk to the trainers there, find one you like and hit the weights :D You'll thank yourself later

A gastric bypass isn't a solution. You have to commit to a lifestyle change or you are just pissing around. You must change your diet. I've been where you are. I was probably in worse shape than you. It's time to stop eating crap and start eating right. There are no overweight people who live long lives, and there are few over 50 who have any decent quality of life.

Take control of your diet. Make it happen. Life is worth living.

It's up to you.

Just FYI it's nice to hear that. I always thought others would think the opposite.

@Heavy - Just FYI bro my parents finally let me in a little secret about a year ago which is that genetically I'm set in line for Diabetes. I usually don't mention it to anyone but you bring up some good points and if you were "trying to open some eyes" you've done it. Hit me up tomorrow sometime if you want to compare some notes on diets and shit that don't taste like complete ass but are decent on the stats.

It's a 10 part series and Cousens starts speaking at vid #3 I believe. I cannot vouch for his technical info, as I only follow Clement who is the director at hippocrates, and I am not diabetic. Some will shout D bag from the rooftops (admittedly, some of the peeps are a bit sketch), but if you're seriously encountering this in your own life, I can assure you it's worth an hour of your time.

Yeah I know my wife is gonna do it first and I'm gonna eat along with her etc and everything to see if I can do it without surgery. Half the time when we go out to eat I'm not hungry but really because of my hours working in this business its the only real time I get to spend with her after she comes home from work but we are working on it.

Sucks man , I feel bad for you, having said that , this business really can take a toll on anyone who's not actively working out / eating healthy ,ect.

I used to work in a warehouse before I got into this , and since then have realized I've gained a ton of weight, and I've been eating/drinking the same stuff as always.

Yep.

I am also just starting to get back into exercising.
Over the last years I have gained quite some weight and it is not doing me good (on top of me not being a healthy person, at all)

Funny shit is how I am just starting to gather motivation for exercise again after YEARS of sitting on my ass after YEARS of being enormously fit.

blargh... life happens

But none of us is getting younger (all those <30 can now laugh at the old geezer and those >40 can laugh at me being the young one) and fuck if it is not getting more noticeable all the time.

I know what I did yesterday evening (working out) and I know what I will do this evening (stretching). Getting the diet under control is another topic.

Best of luck and health to all.

lol vegan ftw. haters gonna hate until the Flying Spaghetti Monster sends them to hell for subjecting animals to cruelty

really sucks about diabetes brah, but definitely focus on eating stir fry and veggies (stir fry is the shittt!!!!!!! except for the kinda high sodium in soy sauce)

diabetes runs in my family, and I have a few aunts that don't take insulin or anything like and are going the "natural" route. I encourage the natural route very much.

I would start by getting some good "omega-3" tons of epa and dha, this stuff is AMAZING. expensive but worth it, your body can't make this stuff. And a goods mens Multi.

Also A good insulin resistance/low glycemic index diet/ or a good low carb diet(be careful with the phase 1s of the popular diets).

And exercise! Best tips i can give you is find a "steady" partner, some good "workout" songs, and hit the gym 4 times a week.

That sucks man! My grandfather had his leg amputated and ultimately died because of diabetes and my uncle's feet have swollen up to where he can barely walk, his vision is failing(almost blind), kidneys aren't working(dialysis 3x/week) and he's only 50 something and this all happened in the last 7 or 8 years.

It's a life changing disease but it's controllable with healthy choices that only you can make.

Good Luck Bro!

I'm sorry man! I watched that Oprah special with my wife just last night and got really motivated to start exercising again. I used to work at FedEx throwing (ahem... sorting) boxes from 3am to 7am. Hours sucked, money sucked but I was in the best shape of my life. Now I stare at the monitor all day and have the gut to prove it!

Don't try to change everything all at once, it's easy to get overwhelmed and give up (at least that's the problem I run into)! Start with smaller changes and stick to them and then build on the success.

Good Luck Bro!

Here is a picture of a wall of monitors! Hope it makes you feel better:

There are places in this world where diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are virtually non-existent. That book explains why.

I have always been a proud omnivore but for the last 40 days I've been vegan and I've never felt better. At least give it a read.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Hope your sugar levels drop a bit after the fast.

Morgan, don't despair. You're lucky it's diabetes and that it's type 2 (as opposed to stage 4 cancer or something else) Why? it's totally controllable! I don't care how you do it, if gastric bypass is right for you, (although I would start with something a little less invasive and less drastic like the lapband, if i were in this position) or whether it's just a dietary change, you can do it.

This is just your wake up call, feel fortunate you got one.

damn man, sorry to hear that. it took my dad going into a diabetic coma for the doctors to even realize he had it. he came back from the hospital being diagnosed with both diabetes and hepatitis c, and he immediately started getting into shape. he was actually in really good shape for a few years after, but then his blood levels dropped an insane amount over a few weeks and the doctors recommended he do insulin shots, and he gained all the weight back unfortunately. he does continue to take a ton of daily vitamins that have helped stabilize his blood sugar levels and keep him as healthy as he can be.

i'm not going to lie, i have the most negative outlook on my health. i apparently have a thyroid condition which causes my body to produce excess calcium which in turn lead to constant kidney stones and calcium deposits on my nuts (not even fucking kidding, i thought i had fucking cancer). my dad has diabetes, hep c, high blood pressure, high calesterol, he too has kidney stones. his father died of a heart attack in his 40s. my mom has heart disease. her father died of lung cancer. i'm a walking time bomb.

hope everything works out for you man. just keep positive and try to get as much advice from doctors and pros on what you can do to get your health back in order.
