went to the doc today and my sugar was 242 from fasting for 18 hours so I def have it. Went to see the dietitian and the nurse and I'm changing the way I eat and some of the things I eat.
Hi T, I would ask that you read this article and then study up on Hypoglycemia along with the Diabetes. This should keep you balanced when controlling the diabetes & your blood sugar levels so that they stay steady and not too high or low.

I will bullet point what others have said that have helped me:
1.)
REGULAR exercise of some sort EVERYDAY. Shit, get an MP3 player and listen to business stuff on whatever topic you need to learn more on to help with your campaigns so that you don't feel like you are "Losing Money" or "Wasting Time" by taking time away from the computer while out walking or running.
2.)
EAT your 3 squares a day with healthy snacks in between.
I use to eat just 1 or maybe 2 LARGE meals a day. I was rarely hungry, but once I did start to eat I just kept on for like 20 minutes. It was insane.
I had to FORCE myself to eat. I would look at the food and think, "I AM NOT HUNGRY!! I do NOT want to eat!! SHIT!!"
I started by fixing a regular sized meal and then eating only half at the sitting and then saving the other half to eat 3 hours later. I started eating 6 times a day by doing this. My calorie intake stayed the same but I had fuel in my body constantly and my metabolism sped up. No more of that "Sleepy" feeling after a large meal or the inevitable HEARTBURN.
It took about 2 weeks to get used to. I started by like just cutting a Tuna sandwich in half for meal one and the other half was for later. I did that with burgers and Steaks as well. I started just eating ONE PIECE of with some veggies instead of say 3 pieces and potatoes & gravy.
3.)
Water and NATURAL FRUIT juices are your friends. I have always liked getting the unfiltered apple juice or the orange juice with a lot of pulp form the store if I was unable to make my own.
4.)
Complex carbohydrates are better than simple sugars.
5.)
SLEEP!!!!!! This IS the tough one here!! In our Industry money never sleeps and neither does the Internet. But "YOU" absolutely HAVE TO SLEEP!! When I first started IM I would go 28 to 40 hours straight without sleep using Mt. Dew & Copenhagen Snuff to stay awake and to also keep hunger at bay. (No time to eat, I'M BUSY damnit!! Lulz) When I did finally crash it could be for just 2 hours (If interrupted by something.) or 9 hours and I would repeat the cycle again. I did this for YEARS and it finally started to wear on me.
Our body repairs itself as we sleep "AND" it is during REM sleep that our BRAIN stores INFORMATION PROPERLY so we can retrieve it later when we need it. You need to get into PROLONGED REM sleep. Which means "NO TV ON" to go to sleep by!! This was VERY tough for me at first. I found a pretty good CD to help me get to sleep and stay there [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Ebb-Flow-Gordon-Hempton/dp/B000003IMS/ref=pd_sim_m_3]Amazon.com: Ebb and Flow: Gordon Hempton: Music[/ame] . I bought it years ago when I was in outside sales and traveling to help me sleep in a different bed & place with unfamiliar sounds every night. Having the SAME nature sounds each night at bed time helped program me to sleep when I heard it.
They say to find out just how long "you" need to sleep, you need to take a couple of nights where you can sleep without setting an alarm and see how many hours you sleep before waking up NATURALLY. Use this as a guideline for setting up a REGULAR time each day to go to sleep so that you can plan you next day's activities around it.
It took me awhile to learn to "NOT CHECK THE COMPUTER ONE LAST TIME BEFORE SLEEPING"!!! Man, I could be dead dog tired and heading for bed when I would think, "I'll just check on things on last time before going down." It never failed, there would be some problem or message that needed attention, then before I knew it a couple of hours had passed by and I was now WIDE AWAKE again!!
It's a vicious cycle and tough to get out of. You have to though. Yes, I'm still guilty of checking on things "One Last Time" to this day, but it is now the exception and NOT the rule anymore.
I wish you & your wife well with this.
May you Live LONG & be Prosperous!!
Peace Out!!
