Doug Stanhope on Liberty

Was just thinking about this "Pledge of Allegiance" topic today and how ridiculous it is.

The Whitest Kids You Know did a great skit on this...

I've always agreed there is absolutely no reason the state should have any laws regarding the state of marriage one way or the other. It should view people as individuals and no special laws for those who pair up. The fact that some laws do depend on your marriage state is why this whole gay marriage thing is an issue anyway.

Amen.

I don't think that's entirely true. The state could have given it a different name - i.e. a "civil union" and given the same exact rights, but the gay population gets all bent out of shape because it isn't specifically termed a "marriage."

I guess that just like most women, gay men must also need some sort of fighting/drama to add a sense of meaning to their lives. Ha.

/derail.

No, certain things just make no sense for the state to be involved in or ever have been involved in. Relationships, friendships, civil unions, and marriages are examples. Why the fuck should a gov give a shit about an oath 2 people make to themselves and/or a god? Especially a supposedly secular government.

Roommates are able to live together w/out legally binding. And they sort out eachother's shit just fine when they separate.

If someone dies shit goes to the decedents or whatever a person's will says.
