Beat a kid and they enjoy reading?

They had these reading reward programs back when I was in elementary school (80s), and they still have them today. I remember it got me to read, and I even enjoyed many of the books. Today my kids are in a similar program at their school...they enjoy reading.

That's all of the "proof" I have, but it's good enough for me.

Honestly I don't see a huge deal with it, but I come from a school of thought where the belief is learning comes best when it's internally motivated; not when it's encouraged based on arbitrary point systems or grades.

Entertaining stuff, but of course the good doctor would still like to use government to make more laws, which is never the answer.
