Drupal vs Wordpress - Make the switch?

I've been a long time user of Drupal and have resisted using Wordpress so far. But every time I see a CMS mentioned for AM/IM purposes its Wordpress. I like Drupal a lot but also see its limitations. Hell just getting a nice template can be a pain in the ass.

Wordpress seems to have a larger community with a lot modules and tons of themes while Drupal has the same or more mods but very limited templates.

What other benefits are there to using Wordpress?
 


WordPress is simplified, made to be user friendly, and takes literally less than 5 minutes to get completely up and running. Plus the limitless amount of plugins and themes.

Drupal can be great when you need more features, but time is money.

Yea I think that's my biggest issue. I spend a lot of time working on getting a site working. If I can do the same thing in less time I'm going to have to make the switch.

You can do wordpress faster, but it won't be nearly as flexible.

I use wordpress for the sites I don't care to invest much time in, Drupal or Joomla if I need e-commerce, forum integration etc.
 
Wordpress is primarily a blog platform with other extensions too.
Drupal is more complicated, more powerful but more time consuming.
It depends on your needs,skills and the time you have available.
Drupal is quite powerful though.

I'm not knocking Drupal's power and know it's the Swiss Army Knife on Steroids of the CMS world. My main issue is the time it takes to get a site running on Drupal or finding kick-ass templates for the site. Even going to Drupal's theme page only has a handful of really good templates that work and look good.

I'll play with WP this week and see how it goes for me. If creating sites is any faster than Drupal I may end up doing like gawnd and use WP for smaller sites and Drupal for the more important ones.
 
Hmmm, I don't know about some of the comments here. I've made several Wordpress plugins that allowed people to do some unusual things. While I would recommend Wordpress specifically for a content related site (of any kind) I have even done plugins like creating a simple accounting plugin to keep track of funds for a church website once.

The functions built into Wordpress really make it quick and easy to code in.

I've heard others talk about user management being a downside to Wordpress. That's something I haven't messed with in Wordpress. It is also the area where I have heard that Drupal shines over Wordpress. However, outside of that, if you need a content related site (sales site, blog, maybe even a small ecommerce site) I would highly recommend Wordpress. I'm not all that familiar with Drupal though, but that's just been my experience in working with Wordpress and the backend. It is pretty powerful and way more than just a blog platform.
 
for simple sites use Wordpress
for Main and money sites user drupal or Joomla
 
I like wordpress because it's easy to use and consumer-friendly, especially if you have to sell sites to other people.

I usually don't recommend any other CMS unless there is a specific reason (i.e. running a pligg-clone site on a drupal platform)
