Here's the background. I'm just getting my first real site going and need some tips. It went live in late May so I've been going for almost three months. The domain is close to two years old. The site is a resource based site with about 4,000 pages, db driven and I'm going for organic traffic right now. Below is my adsense report for June, July and August up through now. Right now I am only using adsense and one text affiliate link. This affiliate link has brought 1 sale in almost 1,100 referals, over three months. That pretty much sucks. I have a posibility for a pretty unique marketting idea with them if things pick up that no other site offers. My tracking shows about 6k unique visitors last month. I have a PR of 4 on this site.

The site is outdoor related and I'm going for long term with this. On my main page I post news articles, I know I have not been putting up enough yet. My sub-pages I am looking for users to contribute content, but obviously I won't get much until traffic picks up. I have tried to focus and tweek my title tags the best I can, optimize text, etc. My sub-pages make are by far as a group more popular than my main page so far. My main page doesn't rank well, but quite a few of the sub-pages do.

I've done no advertising and have only a few back-links so far. I've been busy trying to add content, tweak code, optimize ads, etc so link building has suffered so far. I'm hoping my traffic will continue to grow. I have my adsense blended and hopefully placed well. I tried not to overdo it with ads.

I do have a company that wants to run an ad on the top right area of the main page, below the header from Sept through the end of the year (initially). They also say they may also be looking at other opportunities. I don't know if the traffic I get would be worth their while or the slightest idea of what to charge. I have on ad there now, that isn't an income source, just an item to fill the space. They want that spot. If I go with this I'd like to be fair to both of us, mostly me of course.

I need some ideas for an affiliate with outdoor items I can push, especially interested in outdoor tech items. What companies can I hook up with with the amount of traffic I am generating?

Traffic has been going up, though this month looks like it might not match last, the profits are up. My first goal of $1 per day will be met this month, now I want $5 per day, then work towards $33 or 1k per month. It's not a lot, but it is my first attempt. I want goals that can be met and give me the sense of getting somewhere. I think as time goes by and I add more content and articles the traffic will grow substantially.

I'm looking for tips on what I'm doing right or wrong. I know this is a bit hard without seeing the site. What now?

edit: the big three are all over this site, but most of the traffic comes from G.

The first thing I would do is find out why your page impressions are lower this month. The CTR is higher so you might be doing something right on your site, but with less people apparently actually getting there.

On the other side of the coin, an argument could be made for the higher CTR is the cause of less page impressions. Has the quality of your content diminished and now they are leaving your site sooner? Hopefully via an adsense ad. It's a delicate balance.

Thanks for the help. The content hasn't changed, except for several pages that have had information added to them. I'm not sure why I lost 1,000 ad impressions last month. I have been trying to optimize the ad placement and things like that.
