Et tu, Silver?

We've done this a dozen times on several threads across WF's last three years at least, but for me it was the following:

1. Higher freedom.

Is that true though?

Serious question; I agree with most of your general points but in the US or let’s say ‘the west’ you more or less have political freedom. You can still say what you want about the Government, form a group with all sorts of crazy ideas, run for government based on a communist, racist or fascist agenda without the fear or imprisonment or persecution; generally speaking.

Although the ideals the US was built on have been destroyed I’m still not convinced it isn’t the better of a bad deal or saveable. Yes, quasi democratic fascism isn't ideal but it's not China either, there is still a possibility to pull it back and if there wasn't why did you get so excited about RP.

If you want to move their good luck to you but I hope you stay and funnel your outrage into trying to save the ideals the US was built on.

Please point out what in that post I said that was 'hot air.' It was just an assertation of my opinion, afterall.

Like I've said repeatedly over the last few years, I couldn't handle the heat, only visiting during the wintertime each year.

When you say shit like this it makes me not feel sorry for you being stuck here when the collapse comes bro.

I announced my intention to move there yesterday. It's a done deal... So you can unwad those panties now.

Go ahead and pick apart my post, I don't mind. The fact still remains that you that you ramble on like a crackpot. I would love it if you would move to Thailand, because maybe then you will STFU. I'm not going to hold my breath though.

Luke,

One failed IMer to another: maybe you should stop posting and focus on your adsense sand castle farm. The tide is going to wash it away if you keep staying distracted with all of these threads. :(

Your friend,

Both Hong Kong and Singapore are good long term bets, but much more expensive and hardly as much fun. But I do agree that if you're looking for 20 years down the line stability, Thailand is not the place to be. It's a great place to hole up for a few years and put some money aside while living a luxury lifestyle.

Fuck no Singapore is to expensive and the woman. :repuke:

The biggest perk of HK is of course the tax free income and the business friendly environment.

Yeah, other perks as well such as nature being within reach unlike Bangkok. I personally like the mountains around HK and all the water. I don't like the communist china inspired housing blocks though. They're real eyesores and there's no doubt that Thais in general have a far better sense of aestethics and fashion than the Chinese!

Regarding real estate, I just heard Hong Kong is where expats spend the most on accomodation in the world - more than Manhattan, so that's saying some. Living in Hong Kong island is beyond expensive.

I do wonder if Hong Kong is a happening place business wise or if it's really just for the bankers and big import/export firms? Can you elaborate?

7 years of continious residency is also quite some time to gain citizenship, although I understand the laws are not that strict with regards to how much time you actually have to spend there.

One thing I did like about Hong Kong was the apparent (on the surface) true multiculture and lack of xenophobia (which is big in Thailand). It was very refreshing to see Chinese and Westerners interacting completely without regard to race. An ideal east meets west scenario it seemed like.

Somehow I just feel like I would feel trapped within such a small country?

Is that true though?
It is true to me, I've experienced it.

I won't even go into things like the drones, TSA, and the NDAA for this answer; those are just icing. The fact of the matter to me is that in Thailand you have fewer legal and other restrictions from becoming prosperous than you do here. There is even a conveniently cheap servant class to be your workforce that you couldn't likely afford if they were entitled US workers in a labor union.

Sure, you can say "but every building inspector, cable man, and cop expects a bribe or will delay you" and you may be right... But at least that kind of corruption is out front, in the open, instead of up at the highest offices of the land, controlling your entire life without you even being aware of it.

The corruption here v/s there is very, very different and I guess some people (I call them sheeple) would prefer the american style of corruption. Sadly they'll find out that it's not as stable as they think it is before too long.

Run? Sure. You can do that here. You've just got no chance of winning because the machines are rigged by the parties, and the parties are closed-door groups you can't get into without selling out to some corporate interests. It's technically an Oligarchy here and there's nothing you and 350 Million of your closest american friends can do about that... Even if you all vote as one.

Although the ideals the US was built on have been destroyed I’m still not convinced it isn’t the better of a bad deal or saveable. China's Capitalism makes ours look like a joke. They do capitalism today better than at any time or place that I know of... For some reason China doesn't mind letting their entrepreneurs run free, and the only bad news we hear over here is about how they're TOO free for our liking.

As for me getting excited about RP, I was learning the hard way exactly how far TPTB could reach.

In 2008 I learned that there was media slant that was so strong it could take the Tea Party away from the liberty movement and put it in the hands of those we were against... But I believed at the time that the liberty movement was only 1% or so of the nation so there wasn't much I could say about the system itself being broken.

In 2011 & 2012 I saw how large we are, perhaps 40% of the nation or more, so damn straight I got excited... Until I learned that the media's powers are so strong that they made mostly all of that 40% STILL believe they are only 1%... Despite overwhelming evidence that they just simply refused to air.

I've seen things this year that didn't just make me discouraged about republicans, or even just about americans... They made me discouraged in HUMANITY and I kinda wish I could just unsee them now. But to be fair, I've only seen them take place here in america, so I want out. It's just plain evil here.

If you want to move their good luck to you but I hope you stay and funnel your outrage into trying to save the ideals the US was built on.
Thanks bro, but it's just too late for that now. Think about the purpose of the NDAA. Is there any other likely use for it than to silence those that are outraged by the system?

The best use of my outrage against TPTB would be to help create a self-sustainable, defensible, Voluntaryist Seastead in international waters. I've decided that this will be my goal and it'll be easier for me to do in Thailand by far than it is here.

I do wonder if Hong Kong is a happening place business wise or if it's really just for the bankers and big import/export firms? Can you elaborate?

There's a ton of small businesses (who deal with import/expert, though there are other types of small businesses too). Over 90% of HK businesses are small businesses.

But as far as big business is concerned, it's mainly bankers and property developers and there isn't much competition.

HK businesses aren't as innovative as they should be, but that is great for me because there are so many great untouched niches here as a result of that. You just have to think outside the box and the world is your oyster here in HK. :) E-commerce is wide open here and totally unexploited.

I never feel like I am trapped in a small country because I can always travel to Thailand, China, and Taiwan and have a ball.

What about Switzerland? Low taxes, shouldn't be too difficult to get residency since you're self employed, high rate of freedom, and when you get tired of work you can just hit a bowl of your legal weed and hit the Alps.

Another major disadvantage to living in Thailand is you will never have permanent residency.

Actually they've been handing out PR status like mad lately. You're right though, for years they didn't process the majority of applications, but for whatever reason the govt has decided to start going through the backlog, and seem to be doing so rather quickly too.

PR status is fairly easy to get as well, albeit a bit of a wait. 3 years of residency, an income of 80,000 THB (~$2600 USD) that you pay tax on, you need to know the language, etc. So bit of a wait, but nothing extraordinary.

Clearly you don't remember back to the post I made sometime in 2010 saying that I buy gold IN thailand, leaving it there. -I wouldn't trust these airlines with my trash much less any savings!

inb4 Thailand arbitrarily seizes all privately owned gold.

Hey it could happen! Even I know that the laws in Thailand are "for reference only". I'll take American freedom anyday. Me and my pal "Petey Pistol", who is always by my side, will ensure I'll always be free here in the US of A.

~~Pace out~~

You know the ones, where some idiot dressed up as uncle sam or a gold prospector stands out in front and waves at traffic with the big "We buy Gold" signs?

Say hello to your future job when Google inevitably overwhelms you or terminates your Adsense account. I think you'd be perfect for this too.

Maybe they'll let you dress up as a duck with a top hat!

LOL; never happened in Thailand, but IT DID HERE.

Hey LukeP,

I thought you might wanna see this:

Let's move this discussion to the above thread opened by Erect and leave LukeP alone here muttering to himself.

Be sure to quote this post before you leave so LukeP can see it since he has me on ignore. Thanks!

Anyway don't worry about me. If some government goon tries to take my gold, I'm just gonna shoot him dead with my Petey!
