At my University, there have been SEVERAL occasions where they have sent an email out to my entire college (the IT college of the U) and added everybody as a CC instead of BCC...
So I have a few thousand email addresses....

Not that I care much, but would it be ethical to start spamming them? Not spamming them with shit like normal spam, but perhaps to things targeted at tech Savvy college students?
Would this violate the Can-SPAM act?

Buy some shared hosting with fake ID, set up a script, spam them from there.

Then see what happens :)

SPAM is defined as unwanted email (or ham in a can). As they did not sign any consents to get email from you, you would in effect be spamming them regardless of topic. Only takes one complaint to get you in trouble. Not worth it in the end.

I have a huuuge email list from my college republican club

even though im not in college I still get emails from them

No don't spam them at all

How much do you expect to make? And is it worth it? Nah.

You're not going to make much money spamming a few thousand email addresses.

And if it's the IT college, chances are they'll be more annoyed than the usual college student.

haha. i got a neg rep for posting FUCK EM, Do IT. wow. at least sign it next time. fucking douchebags have nothing better to do than neg rep someone for their opinion... did you expect everyone to say the same answer? blah.. hahahaha

Hey dude,

I just gave you some neg rep, too - and per your note, I DID sign it. An edgy forum with controversial opinions is fine (if you want to define "edgy" as a 14-year-old's wet dream of all the cussing and nudie pictures they want)

HOWEVER...

Controversial does not mean completely irresponsible. For those of us here to
  • Pick up some new tips of how to use arbitrage and aff programs
  • Give out some tips of how to do the same
  • Motivate others to get off their butts and make some cash
Don't need anyone giving advice to noobs that will get them in trouble. The gov't can make anyone's life miserable if given enough reason... seriously. Just pay taxes and stay out of court. Those "gray" areas really aren't all that gray if we are not up a "cornhole of denial". Lawyers cost too much, anyway.

Don't spam anyone with anything - it takes millions of emails to pay off... millions and millions. That college gig is like expecting to get rich of one small arbi site. Just won't happen. I do wish you well with your other projects, because as Shoe said, "It's like fishing with dynamite out there!"

I also think a lot of money may not be made from college kids. And seriously, spam just sucks. Don't do it!

spam don't spam make up your mind, why do you need advice from someone else? hell I have the email list from stanford, send out emails to the students every month! makes around $500 a month for 20 minutes of work!

give the person an opt out and you are in compliance with the law.

here is the thing about ethics, if you need to ask the question then you need to do some soal searching! If you think something is wrong, it is wrong, if you don't think it is wrong it is not. Now if there are laws saying sleeping with sheep is a crime and you say it isn't well that is a different story, the law wins! thus you have the opt out and you are legal!

back in my email spammin days (coincidently college) there was a program i used(eays something..don't quite remember hte name) that you would put in a domain name and it would search for a@domain.com through z@domain.com then aa@domain.com through zz@domain.com and so on and so forth. It would then create a list of all the valid email addresses on that domain. If you were going to do this i wouldn't bother with your list cus damn if you wouldnt' get your ass kicked if someone at your school found out it was you :)
it would be easier to find a program like that again and just put in a bunch of big college domains. Other than that i say go ahead and do it, except for the obvious fact that college students don't have money :)

I see it this way... if they were dumb enough to make that mistake, then it's yours for the taking. The fucked up, not you.. let them know about it. An IT college should know better to BCC vs CC email addies like that. Fuckin dummies.
