Do you search the net, wickedfire, and other forums for information? Do you save all that "great" information all over the place via txt files, emails to yourself, or other means?

Check out EverNote. Download EverNote 2.0 Beta and get organizing.

I found this about a week ago and now I can't live without it.

Did I mention this awesome shit is free? The beta includes a plus version free trial but then automatically converts to the free version after the trial is over. The free version is most likely all you'll need.

Now I have an easy To Do list reference, easy searching, ability to clip shit right from FireFox with all formatting in tact (including images!) with a click of a button added via plugin, ability to search WITHIN images for text, and a lot more.

Anything that helps me organize, decreases waisted time, and is free is something I'll happily share with others here at WF.

Glad to see you found something that works for you Scott. I remember you had another thread where you were asking for suggestions.

I'm going to give this a try. I have odds n' ends notes everywhere and I'm always coming across snippets that I want to keep for later.

I seriously need to devote an entire day to organizing my Firefox bookmarks ALONE. I must have 3,000. I could probably get rid of 2,900 of them and be just fine, but it's figuring out which 2,900 that is that's the problem.

I have 2500 bookmarks as well, however, I always bookmark with good keywords so I can search them out.

My most important bookmarks are kept in the "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" and use the toolbar. I group all the important bookmarks into folders for easy reference. I have about 300 bookmarks in my toolbar folder, of which, I use them all.

I'll give that a try, I use Google notes with the Firefox plugin - it's ok, but not great. Just started using Google bookmarks too (after losing a load last time I reinstalled XP) - again ok, but could be better..

Fuck I think I use fuckin Google everything!

Yeah, I am very anti-google right now search and affiliate wise. But I can't get away from their apps. I use gmail, goog calender and now Google Notebook. G Notebook with a nice little firefox plugin seems to work well for grabbing just about anything online.

Also, I like rememberthemilk . com for a GTD organizational, remote access, to do program.

I'll check out evernote though.

So far, it looks really cool. I've been playing around with it and it's really easy to organize and flip through notes according to the categories assigned to them. I can see how this can be a big time-saver over saving hundreds of clunky Word docs.

I used a product called Onfolio (recently purchased by Microsoft) which was the first such app similar to Evernote then switched to Contentsaver now called Web Research Welcome to macropool

But I like to travel so now I prefer to keep notes and things online so I can access them anywhere that has internet cafes and I never have to worry about losing access to my data if my laptop fails. I use Furl.net for bookmarks, and Gubb.net for little to do stickies. That Clipmarks fills in the rest of the puzzle. Plus all this web 2.0 stuff is free.

Yeah, this thing is really awesome. I have good photoshop tutorials in there now that includes images (hard to do before) for easy reference, I am able to track projects and add to projects with good wickedfire ideas and content, etc.

I wouldn't recommend something if it sucked because I know people here will give suggestions a try.

Regarding google notes? I'd rather have it on my desktop than "have access to it from anywhere." With some of the shit I have saved, I'd be mortified if my google account got hacked into.

BTW, check out the encrypted text option. You can encrypt parts of your clips so that you can only reveal it by clicking the encryption (blue circles) and typing your PW. This is awesome for sensitive data.

Although I do see your point, I don't want my entire life's records and data online. Google calendar, web 2.0 everything, I don't like the trend. I'd rather spend an hour a week backing up and placing my stuff in fireproof safes at my home then on servers throughout the country. I don't know.... perhaps I enjoy a little privacy too much. Hell, even gmail, I access and download via pop3 and don't keep the emails on their servers. I use gmail as a email spam filter because their spam filters are pretty damn solid.

Yeah, good point ScottDaMan. I'm always torn between convenience and privacy. I don't keep my totally sensitive stuff online and any thing somewhat sensitive like free newsletter passwords and such I just use a hint phrase to trigger my memory to the real password. But it's surprising how much stuff I really don't care about if people had access. Like bookmarks and snippets and to do lists.

Maybe I'm an info packrat but the really sensitive portion makes up a very small portion of my data.

Right on about the Gmail spam filter. I've purchased commercial products that were less effective so I threw in the towel and use gmail now. F*ck, no wonder they're taking over the world.

Well... I installed Evernote last night - it looks great.... but it fucked up my Firefox!!

After installing the plugin I couldn't use the address bar!! Anything I typed in didn't work! Guessing it's conflicting with another plugin.

Regarding the online/offline thing - Ideally I'd like both, desktop apps that also store online... but I don't want to pay for stuff that isn't as good as free stuff so generally use Google... backing up emails offline every now and then... when I remember!

So far I'm using these Google products fairly regularly:

Search, Adwords (& editor), Adsense, Analytics, Sitemaps, Gmail, Notebook, Calendar, Docs and Spreadsheets, Maps, Bookmarks, Youtube, and occasionally Picassa, Google Videos, Google Earth, prob more I can't think of...

Bit of a Google whore at the mo!

In an incredible act of bad timing, all of you that downloaded the beta will need to upgrade to the newly released EverNote 2.0 Free Version today.

LOL. Had I known it would have been released a day after my post, I would have waited. Heh. The only thing I might miss on the free version is searching within images for text. But honestly, I don't think I'd ever need that.

BTW, the firefox plugin worked for me with no issues. My wife also installed it and had no problems.

Yo Scott,

Do you use Getting Things Done or follow any other type of organizational methodology? I'm gonna check out EverNote, especially since I find the whole Online App thing a moot point since there are cheap and free services like LogMeIn for remote access to your own desktop anywhere.

Never heard of getting things done (the app). Hmm had to add () because that sounded bad. LOL

Remote access is another good tool as long as you are using secure/encrypted VPN tunnels so that free access points can't grab your details.

I've been using EverNote at my day job for over a year now. Solid app. I wouldn't want to try living without it now.
