I'm trying to crack Facebook ads, and as my experience so far has been a complete non-event, I'm opening up my first lame campaign for you all to look/laugh at, in the hope that I may get some constructive comments and advice. It may even serve as a 'not what to do' guide for other noobs on this forum...whatever.

The Offer

Right, so I thought I'd be really canny and choose a market that no-one else was having a go at, so I chose a dating offer. The offer I chose was the date.ca one run by advaliant. It pays out $3.00 for a signup to the date.ca website.

There were a number of landing pages to choose from, and to start with I thought I'd go with this one, as it seemed to be targeted to the average joe, with the pic of a dude being kissed on the cheek.

Next, my ads:

Next, targeting:

Men aged 25-45 who are single and interested in women and live in Canada. This gives ≈ 312,940 people to show my ads to.

Now I've read here that its best to laser target your ads initially, to get a better CTR/bid price, so I suppose in hindsight I could have targeted multiple age groups and have different ads with progressively older girlies on them, but as its my first attempt I thought I'd test the water with the above.

Total Fucking Fail

I ran it from 6.30pm GMT through the night, and its still running. Last time I checked this is what I got:

So, what the fuck? My CTR completely sucks beyond belief, and I would have thought I would have got a lot more impressions than that too, with a bit price of 0.30 a click?

I've had 4 clicks, and spent the grand total of $1.18. Ironically I have a 5K daily spend limit. Does anyone have any useful comments about what I'm doing wrong? I can live with people calling me a fucking loser and whatnot and telling me to go kill myself, but at the end of the day, its been done before and thats not really what I was looking for. I am trying my best & I'm not after a free lunch, so I was hoping that someone, who I'm sure at some point was at this frustrating noobie stage, would have some advice.

Thanks.

I don't like your ad copy. Also, the landing page shows a signup form. I prefer Adultfriendfinder, that shows the list of chick pics (customized to 18-23 babes), and you can click, and it asks for registration to see more of her profile. That is called "engaging" and "luring".
Dating also seems to convert better when you target the ad like "21 and single?"

Summary:
4 clicks is nothing.
Ad sucks.

Ok thanks guys.

So basically my ads are just shit then! That's useful as I'll just work on making much better ads.
What are your thoughts about the number of impressions, is that because I'm targeting Canada, or is it due to my bid price? As at 0.30 a click its not really going to be profitable unless I have a tailored ad for all 312,940 dudes.

4 clicks is nothing
I know its nothing, but what do you mean by that?

Like the tip about engaging and luring thanks.

Good luck bros

For starters, a better image will get you a much higher CTR. Look for images on flickr.

At the beginning, it's just a matter of trial and error. Try loads of different ads with different images and headings and you'll come across some winners.

I also think you'll need to start your bidding higher than 30c per click if you want to get decent impressions.

Btw, I tried that offer on numerous networks and only got around 3% conversion rate. It sucks!

4 clicks and $1.18 is nowhere near enough testing to determine a winner/loser. You'll want to increase your CTR by a lot though. Some things to try out:

-Better ad copy, like glowleaf said, try targeting their age, or even interests.

-Try a landing page. To be honest, the advertisers offer page isn't the best...with a decent-sized form to fill out. Dating offers that have worked for me is small segmented forms (like spiceyorsweet.com). You'll want a page that will engage them in some way, and call them to take action.

Good luck

The picture needs tits. People will click tits, not faces.

The copy could be less patronising.

Initial bid too low.

Offer is a bit crap.

You're targetting up to age 45, but using the word 'girls' etc in the ad. 40 year old men are not after a 'girlfriend' (they have 'partners'), they tend to be after a serious relationship with a woman and marriage. The targetting is all over the place.

Bottom line: needs tits, skin, legs, flesh, sex.

@Dispel and everyone else, thanks for your comments, they're appreciated and are constructive.

Fucking shit really isn't it? Reckon I might turn my first post into a ebook and go sell it on Digitalpoint instead.

I'll give you some quick advice. First of all, you are going to want to think about spending at the very least around 20-30 dollars to check if this offer and your ad copies are going to work. Second, open each of those ads in facebook and hit create similar ad about 10 times on each ad, that will give you about 30 ads. The ones that get above 0.07% after a few hours you can keep, the ones that do below that, delete them. The ads that you do with create similar do not have to go through the review process as long as they are identical. You also might consider creating new ads with slightly different text and different pictures (about 5-10) just so you can get more impressions on ads and hope for a good CTR. Third, that daily budget, increase it to like 100 dollars at least and just keep an eye on it.

So the more identical ads the better? Facebook is strange indeed...

Heres the deal, when you create an ad they will give that ad like 5000 impressions or so and they want 0.07 or higher for the ctr, if it is lower then your ad won't generally get shown anymore. When you create identical ads though those identical ads each get the 5000 initial impression chance so you have more chances that one of your identical ads hits a high initial ctr and will get lots of impressions.
