Just completed an online survey regarding Facebook ads and, based on the question below, I'd say with a strong degree of certainty that a conversion pixel is coming!

"If Facebook Ads were to offer a conversion tracking pixel that you place on your website, would you use it to track the return on investment (ROI) of your ads?"

Absolutely no way they're going to let that happen IMO. They're making too much money from advertisers running with their own tracking methods. On top of that, they are a social network with very specific information. By firing pixels and giving you EXACTLY the type of people that convert, they give away their converting personal data. Same with Plenty Of Fish and other major scale dating/social sites.

Um... Adding conversion pixel for facebook wouldn't be revealing anything more than what they already do... you can already find out which ads convert, thus which data is converting for you... isn't that part of the point?

And exactly how is facebook making money off of advertisers using their own tracking methods that a conversion pixel would stop that?

Agree with GeXus - respectfully disagree with KindaBallin.

Taking a page out of Google's book, enabling advertisers to see which audiences convert best would ultimately serve more relevant ads to the end user.

On a side note, this could alleviate some of the work for the editorial team if the reports would show pixel fires by demographic.

WTF are you talking about? Why would they not want to help advertisers spend money on their site?

Giving a tracking pixel would allow us to test demographics to a much higher degree of accuracy and ease, the facebook traffic source as a whole will become a lot more USEFUL to advertisers, which will of course result in a higher spend. Also there are a lot of advertisers on Facebook who are not using tracking and don't understand tracking, this will help them a lot, you act like every single advertiser on Facebook is an affiliate from WickedFire using p202.

Uhhh because it's facebook.

But seriously, this would be good if they did.

On a further note, a tracking pixel would allow for conversion-based bidding (i.e. target CPA $28) which, in turn, could turn some under-utilized inventory into more monies :)

Haha ture. FB will probably make a fail of it..

But we can always hope!

like narsticle said, if demo info was passed optimization happens quicker. Quicker optimization = more $$ spent
