Facebook Opens CPC Advertising

Do you think they're trying to target their CPC advertising to the "real" (college students, etc..) users of Facebook? I logged in to see some of they flyers they're advertising, and they really are cracking down quick with affiliates. The other day I went in, and it was saturated with affiliate offers, so many "work-at-home" type stuff.

I went in right now to check what flyers are being advertised, and I'm seeing, cars for sale, and apartments, rooms, etc... for rent, another flyer I saw is from a company looking for an intern, and all the flyers look like they're from the "real" users of Facebook. That's why everybody is getting crazy conversions due to the target audience, and this is probably the reason they don't want affiliates.

I can see where they could get this idea from, since they do call this advertising, "flyers". I haven't gone to college, but I'm guessing these flyers are like a bulletin board where students have stuff for sale, they make a flyer and post it on a bulletin board.

This is the only thing I can think of since they're banning everybody left and right.

I really don't think it's the affiliate links. If that was the case I think they'd just slap that in their TOS. And again, I only had one ad disabled and I"m pretty sure they looked over my account manually because it was during e-mail exchange with them about the daily budget.

If it isn't for affiliate links what else can it be? If it was a particular offer such as dating, they would just disable that particular flyer wouldn't they? I noticed they did that in my account with an education offer, before they got to the dating offer. I didn't think anything of it, but then today they banned my account and all my flyers went to "disabled".

Why would they ban just about everybody here and not care about the money that they're losing from us advertising, if it wasn't a serious issue?

I'm going to e-mail them and ask if they accept affiliates.

It would really help if people posted important updates and news regarding this Facebook CPC thing instead of the usual 'my account g0t bannd!!11' bullshit. This thread keeps getting new posts but its all the same thing. If you've noticed anything new that hasn't been mentioned in the thread, then by all means, post it. Otherwise, STFU. :D

It would be interesting to hear what they say but my guess is they'll just point you to their TOS, let us know when they get back to you though.

I think what wsmith said about the crappy fraud detection makes the most sense. That and the recreation of the same ads + running duplicate ads in the same demographic and if I recall correctly their TOS says something about education offers.

I'll see if they get back to me, I just asked them directly if they allow affiliates. I told them I noticed the flyers seem to be from the users of their website and was wondering if they allow affiliates or businesses to advertise on there.

I guess they probably do allow it, since they ask you how much you you're going to spend with them per month and if you spend less than $25K a month then it's different than if you spend more.

Is everybody's account that being created a fake account? I did notice this in their TOS:

"impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent yourself, your age or your affiliation with any person or entity;"

I know there's 2 threads going on regarding Facebook, but this could also be a possiblity (I had around 6 or 7 flyers running)

znine: "Here's my idea: Your account should be safe from banning if you only have a few ads that violate their pretend guidelines. Their wording implies that only accounts with mostly crap ads are banned. So, if you made like 10 ads with low ($0.01-.05 or so) bids and $1 budget that go to information sites or something and 1 or 2 moneymaking ads, at worst they would just disable the ads. I'm sure they check accounts that have been reactivated more strictly though. This is just an idea and has not been tested."

okay - i got a reply which sheds some light on their criteria....basically all of the 'free' offers are going to be banned:

"We do not allow ads that are deceptive or fraudulent about any offer
they make. If your ad includes a price, discount, or ‘free’ offer, the
destination URL for the ad must link to a page that clearly and
accurately offers the exact deal the ad has displayed.
"

as the 'free' email and zip code offers don't get into the true cost of getting a free ps3 or ipod, i guess they don't allow those ads via the flyer method.

So then going by this criteria, '10 Complimentary' or '10 Bonus' Ringtone ads are acceptable as the destination page clearly states they are complimentary with a $9.99 subscription. Interesting, because I got banned anyway.

I'm thinking there's a bit more to it.

Annnnd in other related news no offers with the following words in the ad copy are being accepted
ring
ringtone
ringtones
ring tone

Bastages....

Yea I tried and tried to write an ad copy that didn't use any 'illegal' ringtone related words.. then, when I finally got it just right, I got denied because they wouldn't allow the affiliate link. I moved on to zip submits, which just might be the next thing they crack down on. fingers crossed!

I went through a few bucks and got all my ads banned. Their Ad TOS is not displaying for me, so I've got no insight there. But going over the general facebook TOS, it says something about collecting emails or other contact info. Maybe that's their problem.

The other thing I wondered about is running an ad with no keywords. Lots of impressions, banned shortly after that.

Until these idiots tell us why we're getting banned, we're just shooting in the dark.

i asked 'autumn' if ringtone ads were okay...she said no. they really need to post some guidance as to what is allowable or not...

I don't see why they have to act dumb. Why don't they just let everybody know clearly what they are and what they are not allowing instead of wasting their time and everybody else's.

Made some lunch monies.

Might as well jump in. This is my first post. I would like to thank you all for the info you posted. This was just too good to pass up so I had to jump in. I was pushin a zip offer. My campaing had a 5 min life span before being disabled. I guess they don't like money over there. Here are the stats:

I had a 25% conversion ratio. Yay. Sucks it got pulled so soon. What does it take to stay in the game a lil longer. I had the flyer lead to a lp on one of my clean sites, the refresh to the zip. WTF...any help?
